Shareport only available for windows what about linux
« on: June 04, 2009, 02:33:46 AM »

I think Dlink can do better with the upcoming of 1.08 and actually make the shareport useful to all users, after all the device runs Linux and does not support Linux via shareport... what up with that?

all I have to suggest to D-link is that no utility should be used and the shareport could be mounted automatically per what device plugged in which would be supported just take a look at what linksys done with the wrt600n abd same usb port feature set is bam right on target.

however if this continues to be a windows exclusive thing  no one else takes advantage of it so we have a potential powerful feature and the person that actually thought to support only windows must be slightly out of touch with modern day computing.

Open source, so anyone can start developing...Dlink has uses propriety technology, so you can better address Silex (manufacturer).Unless they have something in Linux taste, you're on your own.

The Dlink USb port is not the same as the one in the Linksys. The USB port on the 655 was initially only intended (are most probably AFAIK ) designed for Windows Connect Now.

Check out the Silex Virtual link downloads (sorry, no linux): http://www.silexeurope.com/en/home/support/productgroups/common-downloads/device-server-and-virtual-link.html
