Title: DIR-860L B1 ver.203 Router stuttering and working with "hiccups"
Post by: Timur on August 30, 2017, 11:22:12 AM
Hi

I recently bought a DIR-870L router cuz my old one got broken. The problem I have with the DIR-860L is that it works just fine, even faster than the old one I might add, but for an unknown reason it works with "hiccups". What I mean by this is that it loads let's say a website 90% and then it's frozen, and then sometimes it goes 100% but most of the time I have to close the tab and reload the page for it to work, sometimes having to wait 10 sec before the internet hiccup is over. It does this mostly in Google and Youtube but on other sites aswel. This is very frustrating. I tried to put my pc in QoS engine as high/highest priority, it improves a little, in a sense that the stuttering is less frequent but it still doesn't work fully.

Please advise me what can I do to stop this behavior. The router has a rather basic setup options so I couldn't see what I could change to stop this. I tried resetting it but it didn't help. Firmware update is actualized.

Thanks!

- Romania
- Wired
- Cable
- I don't have an ISP modem, it's a UTP cable distribution on the block staircaise.
- I don't have a static IP it's PPOE that give me an IP can't say it it's fixed or not
- speedtest:  http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6583743083 (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6583743083)
- it works with no stuttering if I directly connecting cable in PC.
- it's UTP and not antena cable, don't know what is MTU, does it have for UTP?

But I don't know if all this is an issue since it work perfectly with my previous old CISCO router. I bet if I go buy a cheap router, it would work perfectly but I got this DIR-860L for half price and it sucks that is stuttering, since the speed of it is very nice and when it works it does much smoothly than my previous router. Could it be that my ISP equipment is not compatible to this router. Problem is I can't return it... and I don't wont to buy another cheap one, I'm kinda fond of this one :).

Is the 860L set up for PPPoE WAN connection or Dynamic?

Connection type:  Dynamic IP (PPPOE)

Try disabling IPv6 and set that to Local Connection only. QoS and firewall.

Might give changing WAN Port speed from Auto to 100Mb or 1000Mb and see...

After yesterday testing it seems that:

Wan port speed to 100MB solves the stuttering problem but it drops the speeds to this: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6588013280 (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6588013280)

Wan port speeds to 1000MB stops the internet from working altogether.

And about the IPv6, it was set to Local Connection by default.

Edited: Actually I tried other servers of speedtest and it works at normal speeds.

Thanks, it seems to work with the settings of 100MB now.

There maybe a speed issue between the router and the switch where you get your internet service from. Seems like the switch only supports 100mb if you tried 1000Mb and didn't get anything.

Glad 100mb fixed it. Enjoy.  ;)
