DCS-2230 and MyDLink ?
« on: August 12, 2012, 02:25:32 PM »

Assuming that I ever get the 2230 functional (probably needs firmware uodate), is there any hope for viewing the 2230 with MyDLink or related iPad apps?
If not, any other higher-res cameras?

myDlink and related apps only support the D-Link IP cameras listed here: https://www.mydlink.com/faq/mydlink/ans1. D-Link will soon release a new camera (labeled as HD) called the DCS-2132L.

"perfect solution" easy to say - probably said that about 2230 !! - what will be the folder structure and file naming scheme? will it be truly able to ftp to server? will it be at least as capable as 930/932? what angle of view? how many pixels? will motion detect area be actually able to be set?

Here's my review to Amazon re 2230 -
We have been using D-Link's DCS-930L and DCS-932L IP cameras for about a year (including ftp of images to an offsite server up[on motion detection, with easily accessible folder structure and date-time filenames), and wanted to move to higher resolution.
The DCS-2230 came in a plain brown box (refurb?) and contained NO manual or software CD. I had to hunt those, and download them. Setup would not work until I did a factory reset, strengthening my feeling that this was a returned unit.
There is no overt MacOS support, although browser support should be expected to suffice. Well, no - although the manufacturer claims that Firefox is supported, no browser I tried would permit me to set up motion detection area. It simply won't work. And we could not get it to communicate with the offsite ftp server no matter how hard we tried. And files stored to a local server got multiple-digit names that require effort to convert, and are not saved into the neat folder structure of the 930/932.
And, as this unit is SN xxx00079, this thing must not have sold well despite being on the market for about a year. And it seems D-Link is not interested in fixing the firmware, given the egregious mis-functions and time since product introduction. Looking at the forum setup by D-Link, we find some users who have had somewhat better results by downloading Russian or Italian firmware - what a mess! - but still complain of the file structure and naming issue.
I'm afraid I wasted a weekend trying to make this work, only to run up against brick walls. It's going to go back for refund.
P.S. Picture quality looks good - too bad D-Link failed on the firmware.

No need to focus so much on the box!
The firmware was INADEQUATE.

The DCS-2230 is a business class camera, not consumer.

Well, I'll be finding about the firmware being inadequate in a few days...
