DLink should fix this bug on all the cameras:
  • Bug
Ability to change OSD date format. It's different in every country, so it can get confusing if it is not configured like your local date format.
    e.g.: picture footage from a single day labeled "01/02/12". Jan 2nd 2012? Feb 1st 2012? Feb 12th 2001? ???
Should provide at least these options:
    Date: MM/DD/YYYY, DD/MM/YYYY, YYYY/MM/DD
    Time: 12H AM-PM, 24H
Then about the recording folders/filenames it should be wise to keep the format YYYY/MM/DD 24H to keep the files in order.
  • Wish
Ability to upload and set a .png logo/watermark to the footage

Thanks!  Added... ;)

Hi all!

I would really want to be able to set minimum record length for PIR-triggered events. So that I could configure the camera to record, for instance, for one hour duration after the last PIR-trigger.

A good extention of this feature is if one cam then could activate all the other cams on the same LAN.

But the feature of set record length at PIR-event would be enough. And highly appreciated.

Best regards

Mathias

Although this is only a "wishlist", I'm hesitant to add this feature as it would require recoding the firmware on the entire line of mydlink supported cameras. . . And even so, we're talking about having one camera communicate a "record now" event to all other cameras.

A good addition would be to have an overwrite function for files on the SD card when it is full.  Having to format the card each time it is full is tiresome.

I don't know if this makes sense in a wish list, but I would like to have 2210/2230 (I have the 1st one, but apart wireless and PoE they share the HW) L-ified, I mean supporting mydlink.
It's just a matter of firmware, I suppose the HW of a 2 MP camera is more than enough for supporting mydlink...

I'm going to chalk this up as not fixable by firmware. D-Link has a history of releasing new "L" version models (i.e. hardware) rather than making existing models compatible. This approach extends across D-Link network cameras, routers, and storage devices.

More EVENTs in Event Setup  page, OK to have up to three of them active, but let me define more than 3 of them (8?).
Furthermore it would be great to enable/disable them directly in the Event Setup page, i.e. without entering the event definition by clicking on the event under the "Name" column.
The "Status" column is already there with ON/OFF but that's just an indication (it's not modifiable).

EDIT 1: Why not a larger Maximum duration / Maximum file size in MEDIA TYPE for video clips?

EDIT 2: Why not the possibility to delete directories in SD Card even if not empty? It's boring to enter each hour, select all data, click OK, go up one level, select another hour, click OK, go up one level, etc. Delete only works if there is no file in subdirectories, that's annoying...

A few days ago i purchased my first dlink, the dlink 2230 after being a Axis fan for years. The hardware of this camera is amazing but the firmware is shocking and it shows the lack of time that has been spent on it to compliment the great hardware.

Few of the most annoying things for me amongst other small things that Axis Cameras Firmware are good with are the following:

Should be able to customise the Subject and Body of the emails that gets sent out for event triggers, this will allow people to organise the emails depending on the subject or the body of the email. It also comes very useful if you want to send emails to your flickr account with tags included in the subject and body of the email, its useless having a subject stating your cameras name followed by "EVENT MAIL" and the body having "alarm mail."

Should be able to use Date and Time stamp in the subject and body of the email

Should be able to set Multiple Conditions and Actions for a Single Event.

Until the above is sorted, i am pretty much stuck with a nice piece of useless hardware as i want to send the pictures to my Flickr account with the correct tags and for this i am having to revert back to using my 5 year old Axis Camera which does it perfectly fine but the image quality is not as great as the 2230.

FTP option to save images in hierarchical time folders, just like DCS-930L/932L, with files named yyyymmddhhmmssxx, making new folder each day/hour/0.5 hour

And, have the file name broken up a bit with underscores for readability: e.g., yyyy_mmdd_hhmmssxx

I would buy the camera if it did these things.

I have a couple of webcam sites that require a fixed ftp name (i.e. no date/time stamp on the file name). So it would be great if there was an option just to use the prefix without the date/time. I have a linksys and a panasonic web cams that have the option of not having date stamp.

I would add:

  • Add more sophisticated motion detection choices---for example, detect only dark regions that move from left-to-right in the field of view.  My camera is behind glass and either gets sun glare on the window or shadows of trees moving randomly, and produces many false triggers as a result.
  • Desensitize the motion detection to changes in overall image light level.  For example, if the sun goes behind a cloud and the whole picture gets darker or lighter, that should not be detected as motion.
  • On the motion configuration page, show real-time indicators of the thresholds reached in the last motion event so that tuning the sensitivity threshold and PIR sensitivity level is easier.  For example, they could put a resettable peak reading on there so that I can have someone walk in front of the camera under various conditions and get a much better idea of what threshold or PIR sensitivity threshold is necessary for reliable detection.
  • Blank out the motion detection during the brief transitions between day and night mode.
  • Make day/night mode switching less sensitive (larger hysteresis)---camera toggles back way too much with marginal but constant light.

Added to the wishlist...  ;)

I would add:

  • Eliminate the e-mails with one-line .log files attached.  They clutter the mailbox and are difficult to filter at the mail client.
  • Eliminate the need for ActiveX to set motion regions, perhaps using Java instead.

Please elaborate on the "Eliminate the emails..." request  ???
ActiveX is not required for all browsers. Firefox uses Java.

I have the same issue regarding the "e-mails with one-line .log files attached."  Basically, when motion triggers happen and email is sent with the pics, there are also 1-6 other emails sent with the same "alarm email" body as the emails with the pictures, but the attachment in this case is a tiny file titled something like "evt_20140222_200338096.log".  Inside, the files only contain this "Event : Motion detected"

Hi!  Sorry for the delay (I'm not a "regular" here)

The e-mail .log issue has already been addressed above.  I was also able to make them less frequent by increasing the blank-out time between detecting motion events.

On the Java/ActiveX issue: I have three The DCS-942L cameras that use a Java applet for drawing the motion area in the Manual Motion Detection setup screen.  It works with any browser that supports Java including Safari and Firefox on Mac OSX.

On the DCS-2230, the Manual Motion Detection Setup seems to use an ActiveX control for choosing the motion area, so it works only with IE on a Windows computer.  It does not work with Safari or Firefox.  Everything else with the camera works with the Mac except for the motion setup.

Split into new post: DCS-2230 - Browser Issue (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=58829.0)

As fas as I can tell, you've stumbled on the same firmware bug I encountered a while ago.

Profile 1 must always be set to 1080p.  Any setting other than 1080p for Profile 1 will "break" the other profiles and cause them to appear "zoomed in" relative to what the camera actually sees.

You can set Profile 2 to 720p and use that for your 720p feed, but leave Profile 1 as 1080p.

By the way, once this happens, the camera may stick in this condition even if you change Profile 1 back to 1080p.   If you can't get it to look correct again, try changing the aspect ratio to 4:3, saving, then switching it back to 16:9.

Hi JavaLawyer, a couple other items:

Title: Re: DCS-2230 - Firmware Wishlist
Post by: RYAT3 on September 11, 2014, 09:11:35 AM
Hi JavaLawyer, a couple other items:

  • I have a DCS-2230 pointed out a window.  When the conditions are sunny, any shadows appear way too dark, much darker than in real life; this decreases contrast of any objects in the shadowed area.  Hikvision has "Wide Dynamic Range" mode which seems to compensate for this and provide more true-to-life range in the image.  This type of feature would be very useful.
  • Per a post I made a few weeks ago, the DCS-2230--at least when using MJPEG--does not provide anywhere near its stated frame rates when multiple profiles are in use.  In one case I measured 3-4 fps at 1080p when the profile was set to 1080p@15fps MJPEG.  Would be nice to see this improved!

I haven't had any shadow issues. Are you in outdoor or auto mode with 24 set? Maybe you have more shade than I do.

I always suspected #2. I left 2 of my 2230 cams with 2 profiles.

On the frame rate issue, I have three profiles set:

Actual framerates achieved for #2 and #3 are 11.1 and 5.6, respectively, so I'm getting about 1/3 of the set frame rate.

Here is a snapshot of what I see with Outdoor/24dB exposure.  The shadow is not dark in real life at all, but the camera darkens it significantly to the point where motion detection is no longer practical.

Might need 2 to 3 cams in that situation.  That's a tough scene.

Does the image get brighter if you turn the cam to shadow only?

Yep!  Unfortunately, putting a cam on the neighbor's house is probably not an option here  ;D
Does the image get brighter if you turn the cam to shadow only?
Yes.  Or, if the sun goes behind a cloud, the shadows get much, much brighter.

The 2230 does quite well in relatively consistent lighting, but it has difficulty with high contrast situations.  Other D-Link cameras I own (942L) have the same issue with indoor scenes.  I have a camera pointed at the front door, and there is a light fixture above the door.  If someone enters and flips on the light, the high brightness of the lamp causes the person's image to extremely dark.

I always suspected #2. I left 2 of my 2230 cams with 2 profiles.

On the frame rate issue, I have three profiles set:
  • 1920x1080 MPEG4 at 15fps setting (because you have to have profile 1 set to 1080p)
  • JPEG 1280x720 at 30fps setting (for recording to ZoneMinder)
  • JPEG 320x176 at 15fps setting (for motion analysis in ZoneMinder)

I made an interesting discovery.  Changing to two profiles instead of three, with Profile1=1920x1080@15 MJPEG and Profile2=320x176@7fps, helped a little, with the actual 1080p MJPEG frame rate rising to just over 7fps.

I then changed Profile 1 H.264, instead of MJPEG, but still couldn't get more than 7fps from Profile 1.

I then changed Profile 2 from 320x176@7fps to 640x360@7fps and BAM the frame rate from Profile 1 shot up to 17fps (above the advertised 15fps max) and stayed there!

So now, my profiles are:

So, it seems that certain image sizes overload the camera.  800x450 seemed to work as well, but 480x270 caused the Profile 1 frame rate to drop.
