Title: How to open outbound ports / make sure ports are unrestricted?
Post by: CozyMolars on June 12, 2015, 05:36:16 PM
Hi, I have a DIR-868L router.  I have Tivo Roamio Pro that today, out of the blue, started giving me an error message saying that it cannot connect to the internet, and an error message that says "No DHCP Server."  All of my computers, etc., connect to the internet fine.  I can still watch live tv through my Tivo, but I cannot use any of the internet apps on it (netflix, amazon, etc.) -- also, now none of my Tivo Minis can connect to my Tivo Roamio, so I effectively can't use any of my other TVs.

I tried restarting the Tivo box, restarting my router and cable modem, no success.  I called Tivo support, and they suggested that one problem could be that the Tivo service requires certain ports to be "open" on my router, and certain ports to be "unrestricted" on my network.  They explained that it was possible my router received an update which could have closed up some of the ports that need to be opened.  They gave me a list of 9 ports that must be "open" and a list of a few dozen ports that must be "unrestricted" -- there is some overlap between the two lists.  My problem is, once I log in to my router, I can't figure out how to ensure that the required ports are open, and the other list of ports are "unrestricted."

At least with respect to the first question, I believe that to make sure the required ports are open I go to the "Port Forwarding" page when I log in to my router.  The problem when I do that is that it asks for the IP address, and when I check the IP address on the Tivo, it's giving me a 169 address, which I gather is a problem.  When I try to put that 169 IP address in the IP Address field on the Port Forwarding page, I get an error message saying "Invalid host IP address."

Any help would be appreciated!  Thanks in advance.

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Besure to log into the Admin account on the router.

You may want to set up some QoS rules using the Global example seen here:
