I had a DCS-932L and upgraded to a DCS-2132L. The nightvision on the new camera is horrible. Seems to be very pixelated. I would like to see a smoother image in nightvision. Not sure if turning up denoise specifically for nightvision would work or not, but there has to be a solution to get the image just as good in the 2132 as it was in my old 932.

Pixelated on what? Your cellphone(mydlinkapp?)? Your computer? Through your computer on mydlink.com?

On my computer using the direct link url, or using the dlink viewcam software. The night vision just doesnt look as good as it did with my old DCS-932L. It doesnt matter which way I view the image, whether live, or as a snapshot or as a recorded video the image still looks very grainy.

Are you using fixed quality of "EXCELLENT"?

Yes. I turned down sharpness and that has helped a lil, but the image still isnt as good as it was with the old DCS-932L.

Does the night vision improve if you use both cameras IR light?
I did notice my 2132L improve with the 5222L behind it lighting up more.

i replaced the 932 and have it in a different location now. Hopefully there will be a firmware upgrade for the 2132 soon. There are many improvements that could be made. Nightvision is just one of them.

Poor night vision quality also results in constant triggering of video motion detection. I am yet to find the correct sensitivity setting.

I turned off my motion recording on my 5222L and rely on the PIR which works pretty well.
I am at 60 and 1% on my 2132L without issues.

Im playing with the sensitivity and percentage settings. It definitely affects image delivery, but im still not seeing good images in nightvision.
I am hoping there can be some adjustment made to nightvision in a firmware upgrade. Maybe some kind of smoothing or denoising, automatically decrease sharpness. Not sure what could be done. I just wish the nightvision images were as good as they were when i was using the 932l.

Try turning down the 'MAX GAIN'. SETUP/IMAGE SETUP/EXPOSURE MODE-MAX GAIN. The default is 24. I set mine to 3. ::)

I'm going to say thanks to this post.
I had to remove my 2132L from my secure location for 1 day, and I tested it next to my DCS-2230.
It was severely washed out compared in daylight compared to crisp DCS-2230 image.
I didn't play around much, since I could remount into my secure location - I turned my gain down a little and my picture cleared up even more.
In my situation, max gain on exposure mode of "night", and brightness = 2, I'm getting better images.
contrast=4 , saturation = 0, sharpness = 3.. denoise =1 ( I don't see any changes if I change this).
The dcs-2230 max gain - isn't as much of a stickler. It's on 24, no issues in daylight/nighttime, and I only notice in nighttime a slight difference between 0 and 24... (brightness on 8).
My 10 minute test is not conclusive of anything for sure... but the image on the 2230 is so much nicer without issues.
I can even see a planet or 2 sparkle in my light plagued area in the sky....(with brightness=8 max gain=24).....2132l/5222l would not even come close.

I've continued playing with max gain, brightness, and contrast. It has helped, but the image still isnt as good as it was with the 932. Having to change these settings everyday and every night is a real hassle. I am not happy with this camera.

I have the same issue : the night vision mode is so grainy that is constantly triggering video motion detection !

I do not have access to my camera ATM, but i believe i set my exposure to "low_noise" and my video looked much better at night. Its still not as good as i think it should be, but better than before.
