How to Connect Two Routers Wireless
« on: June 15, 2010, 07:16:33 AM »

Hello everyone.  Please excuse my ignorance and if already posted can direct me to the appropriate link. I am still a n00b when it comes to networking.  Here is my issue.

I have a Dlink DIR-655 and a Linksys WRT55AG Version 2 (latest firmware, but with the original old school setup.  DDWRT does not support the version 2 of this router.)  I want to connect them through wireless.  I know how to set it up hard wire.  Thanks

Edit:  The Dir-655 is the router that is connect to the modem.

No way. Only dedicated models offer this. You need either suitable AP's with wireless bridge feature or WDS enabled routers. Dlink has neither feature (see feature set description)

The DIR-655 can't do this, but if you have a router that is capable of operating in wireless bridge mode, it can be the "access point".  I have a DIR-655 connected to my cable modem, and a Linksys WRT54G running DD-WRT firmware.  If your Linksys can support Wireless bridge mode, it will receive a wireless signal from your DIR-655.

Will wireless clients be able to access the Linksys if it is connected to the DIR-655 via wireless in bridge mode or just hard wired clients?

If the Linksys is in bridge mode, its antennas are RECEIVING a signal, not broadcasting one, so only hardwired clients would utilize the bridge.
