Access Point on a schedule
« on: February 20, 2017, 07:10:20 AM »

How do I put access controls on an access point? I have a dir-632 router and have been able to successfully control individual devices & other routers via access control schedules, but have not been able to do the same with an access point or switch. Is there any way to control layer 2 devices like this via schedule?

Thanks in advance!

Features like "access control" are done higher up on the OSI model then layer 2. Access control is modification of the devices firewall. If you configure a router as a AP, you are disabling it's firewall, NAT and other items above layer 2, so there is no access to control. If you have a AP connected to a router, and you are looking to modify what services can run on that router, then access control needs to be modified on the router(DIR-632?) and not the AP(DIR-855)

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

It's recommended to do any access controls on the main host router and leave the wireless AP as just that, wireless connection point for devices. The router will control what can and can't be accessed if set up correctly.

Let us know what your using as the main host router and the AP?
