Title: 868L ipv6 settings
Post by: koroziv on August 31, 2013, 01:02:31 AM
Hi
My provider offers native ipv6, I can't get it working with the router, it only gives me teredo.
I'm connecting via pppoe, tried autodetection, autoconfig and pppoe from the drop-down menu with no luck.

On the pc i get usually only the link-local address, fe80...etc, sometimes the dns servers.
Connected directly i have no problems, only via router.
I updated the fw to 1.02, i am located in SE Europe, i hope it's not a problem...
With my tomato linksys e4200 it worked just fine, maybe i am doing something wrong with the settings here

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

Have you tried to manually set up the IPv6 using any of the drop down selections under Setup/IPv6?

I have done only one factory reset, i think the one after the upgrade. Is it necesary to repeat the cycle reset/update/reset ?
The provider is rcs-rds (romania) http://www.rcs-rds.ro/internet-digi-net/ipv6
The modem is ZTE ZXA10 F625G

We've found by using the reset/update/reset/configure from scratch works the best and ensures a good seating of the FW and has the best operation.

I got it working, it was exactly random lol. I used the exact same settings as 10 times before. The router just did not want to see my pc as an ipv6 connected device. Now I'm afraid that if I restart the router I'll lose the lucky "wonder" .
Does "save settings to local drive" actually works ? If so, where do i find the config files ? because I click the button and nothing happens...

PS : I tried returning to stock fw  usig the correct procedure, was a no go; updated again, same borring factory resets and config from scratch, again no go. I have no idea why it finally work. I'm using win 8.1 preview with latest IE and everything, but I don't think that matters because direct connection to the pc is working just fine.

(http://imageshack.us/a/img21/606/0saw.th.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/21/0saw.jpg/)

Edit : IE 11 is not able to save the config, so maybe it was creating other problems during setup... just tried firefox and saved the file with no problems.

Edit 2 : It's down again... after pc restart the pc does not get the ipv6 addres; some times it only receives link-local, now i have that and gateway and dns but no ip.

I would contact your ISP and ask them what forum of IPv6 they support and see if any of the drop down menu options is listed there is supported by them. I.E. 6rd, DHCP IPv6, etc. Seems it you got it working once then something happened.

To save configurations of the router, go to Tools/System and select the Save Configuration to File.

Try a different PC or Windows version like Windows 7 if you can test that.

Try using FF to manage the configuration on the router.

Also, I'm showing only v1.01b05 as official current release FW for your region:
http://www.dlink.com/ro/ro/support/product/dir-868l-wireless-ac1750-dual-band-gigabit-router (http://www.dlink.com/ro/ro/support/product/dir-868l-wireless-ac1750-dual-band-gigabit-router)

I recommend that you re-install this version. I would not recommend using v1.02 if you installed from a NA region web site. There are differences.

Thanks for your input.
I enabled ULA in ipv6 local connectivity and it's working so far, even my android tablet gets global unicast native ipv6.
I will get back to the fw for my region if I lose connectivity again.

After 5 days I rebooted the router, no ipv6... now on my original fw i got it working again, but is a lottery.
I had to enable and disable ULA, is the only way I am able to get the router to see my pc as an ipv6 device.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask about this.

I would also test the router on a different ISP modem if possible, like at a friends place or families that has IPv6 support on there ISP. You might ask your ISP if there is a newer model ISP modem that you can test with as well. Need to narrow down if the cause of the loss of IPv6 is due to ISP modem services interruptions or the FW isn't re-establishing the IPv6 service for some reason there.

Change out cables as well. Use CAT 6.

My isp can't help me because if I connect the pc directly I have no problems. I think that the problem is the firmware,  maybe some errors in it. I can only hope I don't have a faulty unit. I'll try ddwrt in a week or something like that,  I have to be sure that it has ipvv6 working and that is stable and fully functional.

ok, I would contact D-Link support and let them know and see if they have any information and help for this.

Any status on this?  ???

Nope, same randomness.  If I restart the router I lose the ipv6 connectivity,  I have to force a few dhcpd restarts by changing settings and also enable/disable ULA. Always the same errors in the log. The firmware is to blame, that is my conclusion.
Ddwrt is a no go so far,  I prefer tomato anyway, but I don't think there is a version for this router.

Not to repeat myself however, I would contact D-Link support and let them know and see if they have any information and help for this. If this is FW related then it needs to be reviewed by D-Link themselves for your region. This is beyond forum help here. Please phone this in so they will be notified and can start tracking it.

Keep us posted.

I found out that dhcpd is bugged in fw from older models,  dir 600 or 625, so I think that they are aware about this problem. They just don't care much about it, since is not so important, no many users have or care about ipv6 now.
Title: Re: 868L ipv6 settings
Post by: FurryNutz on September 18, 2013, 09:02:42 AM
How did you find this out? Those older models are different in code and HW and not the same as the 868L even thought spec should be the same for IPv6. Besides the 600 and 625 are no longer made here thus not developed on anymore.

I recommend that you do phone this in and ask about it.

Some users had the same problems with older models. I'm not a specialist in ipv6 or networking so it's not so easy for me to describe exactly the problem by phone, and usually on the phone you get some p.r. employee who is even more "noobish" than you... If after the next two fw version this issue is not addressed,  I'll try to contact them  by email with some logs and screen shots.
So far is not that irritating,  I don't restart the device often, until now I did it for testing purposes only.

OK, I recommend that you use phone to make contact. Prior experiences with email is less than a solution and usually will direct you to phone in anyways, if you get a response.  :-\

If I don't get a response they will find a surprisingly high number of bad reviews compared  to the number of units sold lol. I'm a patient client but if  I make the effort to send a decently documented support ticket I expect to be answered :D

Well, just letting you know that from my experiences and seeing others experiences here on the forums and on FB, email support is less than satisfying. Even though having to wait on the phone takes longer, it's well worth talking to someone ON the phone rather then waiting for email. Besides you'll probably get quicker response on the phone.

Good luck.

Fri Sep 6 08:28:03 2013    Exiting, sigterm or sigint received.

it is quite obvious, that for whatever reason the config files for both the radvd and dhcpv6 service are erroneous and hence unreadable which in turn produces syntax errors and parsing failures when the starting processes try to read them. As a consequence neither radvd nor the DHCPv6 server will start.

Given you use the Autoconfiguration Type "SLAAC+Stateless DHCP" when radvd is not running the router won't send any router advertisements into the LAN. That's why your LAN PCs won't learn any global IPv6 addresses from the /64 prefix your router has learned from your ISP by DHCP-PD. If in addition the DHCPv6 server is not running your LAN PCs won't learn any IPv6 DNS server addresses.

Given your router is still working in a correct manner concerning IPv6 routing you could circumvent the problem by configuring your LAN devices manually:

Look at the router's IPV6 CONNECTION INFORMATION to see what is your present IPv6 Network assigned by DHCP PD (for example according to one of your srceenshots: 2a02:2f0e:9031:4100::/64), what is the LAN IPv6 Link-Local Address (for example: fe80::7a54:2eff:fefb:394c) and what are the Primary and Secondary IPv6 DNS Servers (for example: 2a02:2f01:30:2:0:405:465:1 and 2a02:2f01:30:201:0:405:465:1).

Go to your first PC and form a suitable global address for it, for example taking the present value 2a02:2f0e:9031:4100::/64 for IPv6 Network assigned by DHCP PD you could choose the address 2a02:2f0e:9031:4100::1 with a prefix length of 64 to configure this PC manually. Configure the value fe80::7a54:2eff:fefb:394c (your router's LAN IPv6 Link-Local Address) as the default gateway for your PC. Finally configure both the values 2a02:2f01:30:2:0:405:465:1 and 2a02:2f01:30:201:0:405:465:1 as primary and secondary DNS server.

This should work but has the disadvantage that you have to reconfigure your PC's global IPv6 address when after a reconnect of your router to your ISP it gets a new prefix value for its IPv6 Network assigned by DHCP PD. To circumvent this you could ask your ISP for a fixed prefix that never changes...

Of course the real problem is a bug within your router, maybe the storage it uses to store its configuration files is defect. I would ask your vendor for a new device.

Thanks for taking the time to explain the log and a possible solution.
I actually ended up using stateful dhcpv6, and ULA enabled. After router reboot i just enable/disable ula a few times and magic happens :)
I still hope that this is a firmware related problem, i think that there are some more config files on the router and the errors are always the same.
