Title: Looking for the right configuration for my router.
Post by: jereziah on May 24, 2015, 01:06:15 PM
Hi all,

I'm trying to properly set up this router, I've tried firmware updates, which only make the router slower and non responsive.

The router came loaded with the firmware 1.03 , using it at default settings had several problems (some devices can't connect, and if someone uses the 5ghz band, some PCs or devices lose internet connectivity)

I updated to the firmware 1.05, which only lowered the connection range.

I've used several configuration options I've found here, being this:

the most successful.

Right now I'm using it with firmware 1.01 and having " a decent experience" but 5ghz band is not usable (can't connect and makes people lose connectivity), the problem now is that sometimes, the internet connection craps out.

One moment you can be browsing/playing games/streaming a video and the next second, it will randomly re-buffer, lag from 80 ms to over 4000 ms (acorrding to the game status) and overall, it has SEVERE LAG SPIKES/HICCUPS, and some pictures take quite long to load (facebook, twitter, etc)
This doesn't occur with the default ADSL Router provided by my ISP.

Is the a proper way to get the most out of this device?
Or is the products really generate this much trouble? I dare to say this, because it's not the first "trouble" router I've encountered, my previous experience was a DGL-5500, which was supposed to be really good.

My ISP's router is a HG532e, which assigns a fixed LAN IP to the router, which has DMZ to allow the DIR-827 to manage my connections.

Any help would be appreciated, it's been a year with this router and I still can't figure out how to make it work as advertised.

Thanks in advance.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.
