DNS-343 and Samsung TV
« on: September 15, 2010, 09:58:37 PM »

Can the samsung access the nas via the network without having to use the pc sharing software?  from the tv, i can see my dlink nas, but when i try to access i see 3 folders: video, pictures and music.  Since i never created those folders on my nas, i assume it's not my 343 i am actually looking at.    I am not sure if i can do what i am attempting, but if anyone has gotten this to work.  please reply.

thanks.

Other members may be in a better position to help if you provide the model number of your Samsung TV (there are quite a few models out there).

@painkilla71, I believe you've indeed accessed the NAS with uPNP protocol. When I use my media player to access the NAS with uPNP, I also see the same 3 folders. Try putting some media files in it and you should see them in their respective folders.

It sounds like he already has media files on his NAS, but the media player TV displays 3 folders with no content inside.  Need to know more about the product to help any further.

Is the UPnP Enabled in 'Advanced' settings on DNS-343? Is the correct folder or Root selected?

Have the same problem. Everthing is enabled on the device. TV sees 3 folders that are empty ?
How would I populate them or map them to existing device contect ?

You'll need OEM software (PC Share Manager) to stream media. From my experience it's a half baked solution.

so those folders dont exist on the nas, but the uPNP client is seeing them because uPNP is enabled?  have you tried simply creating those 3 folders on your drive and dropping a few test files in them to see if they show up?

These aren't folders but options for you to choose: movies, pictures, or music. Once you select, the unit will attempt to find the selected items on the shares. You don't necessarily have to go to the uPNP root; you can make a share on your NAS that will be detected by your (SMART) TV. Basically anything you have on your LAN.

SAMSUNG, like any other brand (I just bought an LG), will not recognize all media types. Mine can find simple DVD-Video formats (VOB) but refuses to play them. Isn't technology wonderful!

Users of other DNS models have had some measure of success by renaming the video file extensions (e.g. *.mkv to *.mp4).
