Recover / restore files lost from power outage
« on: July 20, 2011, 02:33:09 PM »

Hi,
I got a DNS-323 with two 1TB HDD. I partitioned the disk space into two volumes. Volume_1 uses  RAID 0 (double copy), and Volume 2 uses RAID 1 (single copy). In a power outage, all my files in Volume_2 'disappeared', while files in volume_1 were intact.
Is there any way to restore / recover the lost files? Thanks.

There's no way, with an unhacked DNS-323, to get a RAID0/RAID1 disk configuration - if you do not use all of the available disk space in a RAID configuration, the remaining space is used in a linear JBOD configuration.

If you do not have a backup of your RAID0 volume, I would suggest you make that your first priority - RAID0 should never be used on a storage volume, and unfortunately I cannot offer suggestions to recover the data from your JBOD volume.

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.
