Need help setting DAP-1522 to Asus RT-N56U
« on: September 02, 2012, 06:44:14 PM »

Hi Everyone,

Hope someone can help me out. I use to have a DIR-655 and dap-1522 both worked without any issues. I recently upgraded to Asus RT-n56u and now I want to setup the dap-1522 with it.

I have no issues with the Asus RT-n56u everything seems to work fine here the problem seems to be with the dap-1522 where it connects but then disconnects almost instantly. I will list the steps I have followed so maybe someone can help me out.

1) Connect dap-1522 with my desktop computer via ethernet
2) Change the LAN settings for tcp/ip v4 to manual IP
3) I set the manual IP to 192.168.0.60/ subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and the default gateway to 192.168.0.50
4) I open my web browser and connect to 192.168.0.50 and I see the dlink page and I log in fine.
5)I tried going through the wizard, picked manual and have tried both the 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz bands they are set up as WPA-Auto Personal and I enter in my password. It says settings will be saved
6) The page refreshes to the wireless one but I don't see any options here just the save config one. When I go to status sometimes it says its connected but sometimes it just says it's not

I try to unplug from my desktop and take it over to where my apple tv is but it never works...not sure what to do.

One thing I should note is my asus is connected to 192.168.1.X so do I need to change the dap-1522 to 192.168.1.50? instead of 0.50 I really don't know what else to try?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, it needs to be in the same 192.168.1.xxx subnet.  Also, if you plan to use 5ghz, turn off packet aggregation in the advanced 5ghz page.

Still doesn't work, here is what I did:
1)went back to 192.168.0.50 and logged into dap-1522
2) Under setup tab then on the left network settings, I set the lan settings to: Static IP, Access Point IP Address: 192.168.1.50, subnet: 255.255.255.0 , default gateway: 192.168.1.1 (my router ip but not sure if this needs to be filled out)
3)Hit save settings
4) went back to my LAN, tcp/ip v4 > changed ip to 192.168.1.60 and the default gateway to 192.168.1.50
5)went back to the browser and connected to the 192.168.1.50 and logged back into dlink setup page
6) went to wizard, manual config> site survey > picked my router from the list > selected wpa for security > entered password and let it save settings
7)When it reloads the page the wireless network settings is still blank and all I have is "Save settings/don't save settings" at the top

It should be able to pick up the Host routers IP address scheme and use it as it's address after the settings have been used under the Wizard. Are you using the DAP in AP or Bridge mode. If AP, then by setting up manual settings should work if you select a IP address and the Gateway is the IP address of the host router. In AP mode there should be a wire running from the Host router to the DAP. Bridge mode it should connect automatically to the Host Routers wireless and shouldn't need any configuration other than using the wizard. No wire is needed accept for connecting a wired device to the back of the DAP.

got it to work!

in my router settings there was a seperate option for bridge mode and it was set to disabled - to not allow any AP/bridge to connect to it. I set it to enabled, went through the process again and it worked!

Only question I have now is, my firmware is still v1.21 is it worth it to upgrade to the v1.41?

Thanks for all the help!

I recommend keeping what is loaded as its working for you. If your not effected by any of the items listed in the newer firmware, the you should be good with the current version thats loaded.

Possible that in Bridge mode status may not be populated. If it's working, it should be good to go.

Check DAP-1522 hardware reversion. If A1 and under warranty then you need to call D-Link for unit replacement and ask for B1 because A1 only support 802.11 draft n and incompatible 802.11 n.

Great information, didn't know there was a compatibility issue. Thank you for sharing.
