Allow ICMP 8 (Ping) Passthrough
« on: December 21, 2010, 08:34:33 PM »

I would like to passthrough ICMP 8 (ping) requests through the DIR-655 to my server. I found where to allow the router to respond to ICMP 8 requests, however, I do not want the router to responder, rather the server itself.  Is there a way to pass these requests through to the server?

Unfortunately, ipv4 complicates this due to NAT.

Fortunately D-Link's easy solution works some of the time

just type junk into the top box
type the local ip of the server into the box below
select other
and type 1 into the box below
apply by clicking SAVE SETTINGS and click the REBOOT NOW button

If it doesn't work, then either you have a problem with a firewall on your server (probably not, unless it is a current project your working on, and not a tested working solution) or you are just out of luck.

I have not had great luck with virtual server, some genius set it up to where GRE packets are blocked by the box even if allowed in virtual server.

I have tried to configure it as the picture shows and reboot the router. I still can't ping computers on my wireless LAN from my WAN.

If I try to tick the little checkbox next to the rule I get the following message:

Virtual server 'samyoung pings' protocol number, 1, must be 0 or between 3 and 255.

HW: DIR-635 B1
FW: 2.34 EU

Any ideas?

This may not be supported on your model router. I recommend that you phone contact your regional local DLink support office and ask them for information regarding this.

Let us know what they say.
