What are the filename for these files? are you using unicode or any special characters?

There is definitely a problem of some sort.

Using the 1.08b5 beta - the only files I can transfer are .txt files - I have tried word files (.doc), excel files (.xls), adobe files (.pdf) and zip archives - they all appear to transfer successfully, until you attempt to open them at which point the application reports that they are corrupt of have an invalid format.

file names make no differance, have tried renaming them many times.

Thought I'd add another datapoint.  I tried this using WinXP SP2 and Office 2003 - both Word 2003 .doc and 2007 .docx formats.  (I haven't upgraded to Win7 or Off2007 yet).  I can transfer Word documents to and from my NAS (firmware 1.08b05) without any problem using Windows Explorer's FTP, Internet Explorer's FTP and Roadkil's compact FTP client.  I haven't tried opening a file from inside Word2003 that's stored on the NAS - that might be problematical since Word will try storing a temporary file in the same directory and there might be some EXT2 permissions that Word might have trouble dealing with.  (Actually, I just did try it - and Word2003 errored out thinking the .doc file was compressed...)  Bottom line - I can swap .doc and .docx files on and off the NAS by FTP - and even when done multiple times, there are no problems opening them on my local hard drive.  Unless I'm missing a crucial step, I'm not seeing the problem.

OK, same effect here.  Here's a PDF, DOC, and XLS file.  All appeared to transfer successfully, and all had an error when they arrived.  The original files were all verified to work properly, and still do.

FTP is clearly broken on the DNS-323!

I found a fatal error, haha  8)

Well now...When is our next fixed firmware coming out?  ;D

Oh and...Please throw these features at the same time;
Quote from: P01arBear
[Feature Enhancements]
FTP montly bandwith upload and download limit
Add a feature of monthly bandwith upload and download limit per account would be good to gain control over the ftp activities. I think it might be better than receiving your bill at the end of the month with a bad surprise.

FTP User and Group support with per User Virtual Directories
So we can create virtual directories for groups or accounts with differant types of access to folders at differant locations on the DNS's hard drives. As of now, it's impossible to share 1 specific folder for 2 distinct users or groupes.

FTP Auto-ban IP anti-flood
Always in the optics of getting better protection, there could be a system that, after so many attemps (10...) with bad password/login in x time (example 1min) then your IP is banned from the DNS for (30min/60min/always). Perhaps this would also be good against brute force. And have a pannel to control these IP's to either keep them on that block list or unblock them (ex a friend tried too many times and just forgot his pwd).

FTP Active Logs
A simple log that could be seen directly from the GUI for direct consultation. Would help alot to know what is going wrong or who is getting access to your DNS. Again, this is almost a security addition.

At least it is partly solved in the next beta 1.08b07.

Quote from: D-Link Multimedia
1. Bugfix : Unable to save the modified word/excel file which already in device through Samba.
2. Bugfix : Normal to Raid1 : create a new volume for the remaining disk space.

Those are the exact bug fixes for b07....

I'm able to save and open changed Office 2007 files directly on/from the NAS.
FTP transfer is also possible - didn't try to open files via ftp.

Well, if that beta had been made available by D-Link, we probably wouldn't be complaining about this issue!  ::)

Are you sure?

I've not had any problems with that.

But - having transferred the files - can you open them?

In case it's not clear - I have no problem moving files using Windows explorer, cut & paste, etc - and I can open files on the NAS directly from MS Office or Acrobat Reader - where I have a problem is that if use ftp to get a file from the NAS to the PC, it is corrupted and MS Office, etc. will not open it.

Your tests - at least as you describe them - do not check for this particular condition.

My tests have the identical results as fordem reports.  I copied the files to the DNS-323 using SMB (Windows Explorer), they are fine on the DNS-323.  I can copy them back with Windows Explorer, and they're still fine.

They are corrupted by the DNS-323 FTP server if I put them there from my system OR get them from the DNS-323 to my system.

I can't believe you'd get a different result with 1.08b05.  Since D-Link hasn't seen fit to actually make 1.08b07 available, I can't speak for that one.

Works fine when using ftp.
You may try yourself. I opened the server for read/write with 2 testfiles - you can change them if you want.

Perhaps that's the real fix in 1.08b07. :)

Well - that's certainly nice to know - means there won't be a "further delay" in the release of the new firmware.

Yes, this version does everything I need from it.

The DNS is my backup-server for older files not longer stored on my other NAS and so I only need it from time to time.
Nevertheless it is good to know that it works :)

I wish someone would write a rsync .pkg for it, then I could use it for direct backup of my Synology.

(ftp is shut down now)
