Bridging DAP-2553 with a DIR-855
« on: September 08, 2010, 09:12:28 AM »

I've a DAP-2553 that I want to use as a bridge to my DIR-855 that is internet connected. Is this possible?

I just bought the DAP-2553 to do just this, but can't work out how to do it. Since investigating this it seems the 2553 supports WDS, but this feature has been removed form the the 855. Is this true? If it is I've a brand new DAP-2553 & DIR-855 than I need to shift!!

i had an access point that i tried to bridge but it didnt work. when i was looking into it some people said that bridging only works with WEP security and that higher security wont allow it to work. maybe thats the problem?? i know that you have to "clone" or copy a few of the settings from your 855 to your 2553 in order for it to work, such as mac address and all that.

thanks for the reply mushymarlin.

I've seem exactly the opposite to your suggestion too, i.e. that it only support security higher than WEP. It's worth a try, so I'll give it a go and let you know.

It seems that the feature was withdrawn from the DIR-855's predecessor (DIR-655), and has never been included with the 855. Is this a ploy to get us to buy more hardware? I looks like I'm going to have to purchase another DAP-2553, so that I can connect these networks. Three devices for a home network. Come on dlink do us a favour. Put the code back in, so that we continue to have faith in your hardware.

sorry ... bit of a rant there ...

does anyone know whether the code was pulled for the DIR-855, so I can justify my ranting? I'll be very happy to back down, and be proved wrong.

tried using WEP, open, and every conbination possible. No good.

i've opened a call with DLINK now to see if they can shed any light on it, so I should have a definitive answer soon.

Strangely the US site has a build-your-config app, which says that you can link the two. Fingers crossed. I don't really want to buy another 2553.

yeah does seem kind of silly, especialy for such expencive equipment, they must be some way of getting it up and running. these forums seem really quiet or is it just me?
