Title: WISH settings
Post by: wenwon on January 21, 2013, 09:01:34 AM
I searched for this before asking this question. I'm trying to make the router give priority to all voice and video communications in my home.  I've tried to search everywhere for WISH settings but I've only found a few resources and they don't resolve my situation.

Can someone please tell me if this setting makes sense for video?:

Name: video
Priority: Video (VI)
Protocol 256 << Any
Host 1 IP Range: 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255
Host 2 IP Range: 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255
Host 1 Port Range: 0 to 65535
Host 2 Port Range: 0 to 65535

You can find information about WISH on the routers help page:
http://192.168.0.1/support_adv.asp#WISH (http://192.168.0.1/support_adv.asp#WISH)

Is mainly for voice and video streaming over wireless. Does not effect wired devices.

Are you currently exhibiting any problems with the current router configuration or operation?
What device are you currently using with the router?

OK, thanks.  That's helpful.

I'm not exhibiting any issues with any device but I was trying to tweak the router to be even more responsive to voice and video feeds over the wired  network.  The router is working fine.

I  keep reading (and hearing from Dlink reps) about this option:

Automatic
When enabled, this option causes the router to automatically attempt to prioritize traffic streams that it doesn't otherwise recognize, based on the behavior that the streams exhibit. This acts to deprioritize streams that exhibit bulk transfer characteristics, such as file transfers, while leaving interactive traffic, such as gaming or VoIP, running at a normal priority.

I do not have an automatic option.   I have a "Windows Media Center :   " option that is checked  off.  Do you know if this is the same thing?

Finally, should I simply leave the WISH rules blank?

One more point, the settings listed in this thread:

http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=7102.0

It seems like this guy was trying to give priority to one device.  Can you please verify my settings to see if they make sense?  If not, could you please let me know what the settings should be to give voice and video communications priority to my wireless devices?

Your settings and configuration depend on how many devices you are using, if your only using 1 or 2 wireless devices, then you need to set the host IP addresses more specially to what each device has for an IP address. Right now you have WISH set up to service any and all IP addresses that devices may have.

Windows Media Center is if you have a PC that has Windows Media Center and enabled to service extenders like xbox 360s. I don't know if this is the same.
