Resetting will not clear previous firmware settings
« on: July 19, 2011, 04:44:50 AM »

I just flashed this router with DD-WRT about a week ago inside the webui that was provided. It all went well but I wanted to go back to the original factory firmware so turned it off for 20 seconds, and held the reset button for 10 seconds to reach the emergency-room.

I re-flashed it with the firmware I got from d-links website and all went well. So I tried to go to 192.168.0.1 that did not work so I tried the ip that I gave it before it was flashed and it still remained x.x.x.254.

I also turned off dhcp server since my isp's modem provides that and other services. But when I looked into the logs it would keep starting up dhcp server every minute which would lead to all kinds of problems.

Is there any way to wipe those settings from the router?

Edit: The ip/subnet are set to 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0. It seems to start this as soon as dhcp is disabled.
LOG:

11:55:51 DHCP Server Start
11:55:40 device_lan_ip=, device_lan_subnet_mask=

Hardware Version listed in the webui: _auth_m

if your modem is providing a dhcp server and other options then its probably best to take the 601 off line and just use the modems services. It's preferred to only use one router on the same network and it's preferred to use the Dlink router since it has more and usually better features then ISP modems with built in routers.

I understand that. I was just using the DIR-601 as a access point for my wireless devices to connect into.
Modem->Switch->Nodes connected with cat5e straight through cables.

Anyways I think it might just be bricked. The ER page fails to work correctly and after restarting it a few times it goes back to default d-link firmware I uploaded to it before all this went on.

When I do connect to it I do from a laptop with a cable straight to it so it won't interfere with the rest of the network until it will stop acting up.

Yea, the only way I could upload it was through the "original" d-link firmware I uploaded to it but was broken. It seems to work fine except that the signal strength is something to be desired.

A wireless G client that is in the house used to get around 20% signal quality but now it is hovering around 6-7%.

Kinda hope I did not burn it up. I recently found out about the Keep Alive function to have it reboot on a set time.

Try changing the WiFi mode to single mode G. Signal should go up.
