Must be an oversight. The modification date for the file located in the FTP directory is November 10, 2011, but the firmware version is 2.01b01. ???

The file name @ ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Multimedia/dns320/Beta/Firmware/ is 201_beta, and the file date within the zip dates back to may 12th.

If there is a new release, where is it ?

Good Evening,

I am very optimistic that this update will address my OS X Lion issues. I am able to download the ZIP from the FTP server, but when I try to expand it I get "Unable to expand "dns_FW_202_beta.zip" into "my_location" (Error 2 - No such file or directory.)" I have also been unable to expand it on an earlier version of OS X (10.5 ) or Windows 7 running in a virtual machine. Is anyone else getting these issues? I have tried downloading it multiple times. Thanks in advance!

I attempted to download the posted firmware and was unable to expand the zip file due to a corruption error.

I had errors with the ftp download as well, but I was able to get it from one of the D-Link web sites.  It expands without errors as DLINK_DNS320.2.02.b01(2.08.0923.2011)(BETA) and after flashing the firmware says:

Current NAS Firmware Version    2.02
Firmware Date    09/23/2011

I had flashed from the other beta (2.02 09/01/2011).  Some people were asking if the flash was ok from the original 2.02b1 and I can verify I have not had issues yet, but I have not tried the large file ftp or other issues people were having.

zansec, The release date on the file you quote in your post is the same date of the original beta firmware 2.02 that was removed from circulation. I advise waiting for the sanctioned updated file on the U.S. FTP site.

I stand mistaken. In any event both files were released in September 2011 and 2.02b01 firmware was pulled on or about 10/10, which post-dates those September releases.

For the record, given the non-U.S. source for the firmware referenced by this poster, there is no substantiation that this firmware is the November 2011 release (re-release) of firmware version 2.02b01.

Again, I recommend against installing firmware from a non-U.S. D-Link source (unless labeled as ww or worldwide).

On the other hand, the file was put on the server on Nov. 3rd. Looks to me that this is the announced firmware, but that there's some lag between the release and the announce.

And if you check dlink's servers from other countries, you can see that they're far from being synched...

I hope you are correct. As an aside, from personal experience I've found that "ww" labeled firmware on the Taiwan site to be reliable. However, in this case I'm erring on the side of caution for the sake of the user community as a whole until the firmware version is confirmed (or refuted) by D-Link U.S.A.  ???

Same here, download the 2.02b1 re-release from local site, the firmware date is 23/9/11 (previous one is 1/9/11).

No changes as far as I can tell, it still refuse to let one downgrade to older firmware version.

They have yet to confirm why they removed 2.02b in the first place, and what are the changes in the new release, which in effect is not so new since it's almost 2 months old...

Kind of hard to believe that after all this time, they've not only managed to upload a corrupt file, but when I finally managed to obtain a working version, it turns out to still have the most major bug of them all (not being able to downgrade)

After 2.02... can i downgrade to 2.00 its intersting..
Ore may be i`ll be on 2.02b forever now? ???

There is ROM with factory firmware in it?
May be its possible to flash the firmware from ROM? How?

Hopefully 2.03 (ETA Q1 2012) will go through a more thorough QA process!

Although I realize the point you are trying to make here (and that your stated FW version/release are fictitious), I must state the following to avoid potential confusion among the user community: D-Link did not publish a next firmware release/beta version number nor has D-Link published an estimated release date. Generally speaking D-Link does not openly publish advanced notice of firmware releases.

There's also a lot of other items on there too, so while I'm happy that it's getting looked at, it's still not exactly comforting... I think pretty much everybody here wants to know if it'll definitely be part of the next beta, as it should be among the top priority items on the wishlist!

Updating to this version 2.02 has worked.. no real performance improvements (for a NON apple Guy).... It has however f***ed up my home network in such a way that i would like
to go back to previous version 2.0. What you considdered a bug (anonymous guest access on the disks using CIFS) was my best feature.

e.g.

I have a Zyzel DMA-2500 streamer. Using version 2.0 on the D-link allowed the DMA-2500 to treat the volumes as harddisks. Browsing to a DVD directory
would start the DVD (have a terra of frequently used dvd'S). After the update it cannot browse the volumes anymore (i have no users installed on the DNS-320 since it is a private network that only I can access).

At that time i could click the ifo file and the movie would start. After the " Bugfix" my Zyzel cannot access the volumes anymore. Only way is to run the DLNA service that is realy s***ty on this device. IFO files cannot be started in DLNA it will not work from the Zyxel. I can start the first VOB file of the DVD. But since that has no menu's i cannot select a sub. Also SRT files are not supported from the DLNA service. That would give me no problem using CIFS for accessing the Volumes and directories on that.

I would like to go back to version 2.0 since that worked perfectly in my setup... but like NITRO785 said .. after flashing it....
Downgrade to 2.0 still not possible.

So anyone who can help me downgrading... this update for me has turned into a real nightmare !!! BIG TIME ..

Or maybe you guys could make it a feature... selectable wether i want to allow anonymous acces using CIFS ..

Thanks in advance for any help you could give me..

BTW: I created users and rights on the volumes for non-anonymous access using CIFS but when i put the credentials in the Zyxel it would give me error 407 (service not found). I detects the DNS.. but it seems to miss a service.

@ JavaLawyer: Any change of taking the source from 2.00 and recompiling it to a higher revision say 2.03. I think the main reason of not being able to go back is a revision check in the firmware.

Tried it with a hex editor.. but was not able to find the revision number..

Shouldn't be to much effort and given te latest 100 replies.. most people ask for a way back ... The wishlist and new features are for future use... no hurries with that... but being able to go back should be a top priority given the feedback on this site.

I do not know why the firmware does not permit regression to an earlier version. Your proposed approach "assumes" that the firmware was intentionally programmed to prohibit using older firmware. If the reason for the update failure (to an older verion) is due to a true bug, then version number would not matter.

@ JavaLawyer: I understand the reply you gave me.. however i've seen strange things working with libraries to be included from 3rd party and sourcesafe systems. There could however be a simple lib included that works with only higher revisions in updating... Reverting back to other versions (e.g. 1.00) also didn't do the trick so there is a point where a revision will be checked...

I also looked in some of the firmwares for DNS-320 and in most cases i run into a line that says DNS-323 instead of DNS-320... maybe a mixup in compiling??

The latest beta firmware does not permit downgrading, nor are there any techniques that have proven to work. This bug is known and repeatable.

I have been having a persistent problem that I would like to add to the "Wishlist."  Thanks for maintaining this JavaLawyer.

The FTP server does not understand the ALLO command very well, and this command is required by ftpput (the only way to ftp from my VMWARE server). Apparently, ability to understand the ALLO command properly is a standard.   The last firmware update resolved many of these errors (though unfortunately not all).  In particular, I receive an "ALLO: 552 Disk full - please upload later" error when uploading large files.  I know this sounds like my mistake, but I have confirmed that my 2TB drive can, in fact, take the same 2GB files when transferred via normal command line ftp (see http://forum.magiksys.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=104#p450).

Thank you!

No problem. Feel free to post your suggestions directly on the Firmware Wishlist thread and I'll update the master list accordingly.  ;)

3TB drive WD30EZRS from Western Digital seems to work fine now.  :)

But WHY is this drive is in the compatibility list??... I wouldn't have bought the DNS-320 if I had known that I have to use a beta firmware. ftp://ftp.dlink.se/Products/dns-products/dns-320/Documentation/DNS-320_Compatibility_List-20111004.pdf

The original beta firmware v2.02b01 contained support for 3TB HDDs prior to the firmware being removed from circulation. This original beta software release predates the HDD compatibility list, explaining why the aforementioned 3TB HDD was placed on the list.

I believe the point is that the compatibility list does not in any way disclose that some drives can only be used by installing beta firmware which is both UNSUPPORTED and IRREVERSIBLE.  This is sufficiently misleading as to be deliberate deceptive marketing -- e.g. false advertising.

By the way, the re-released beta firmware appears to be identical in size and date to the originally released firmware.  Does anyone know why d-link pulled it, and then decided to release it unaltered?

With this beta firmware, the fan keeps going on and off for no particular reason. The hard drives are in stand-bye mode and the system temperature is just 111 degrees fahrenheit.

The fan is very noisy, I must say. I also have a dns-323, and it's always silent, even when it's busy.

I often can't shutdown or reboot this.

Just power LED blink and do not turn off / reboot.

It all boiled down to the design since the cooling fan used in both product is identical.
