DIR 615 B2
« on: April 13, 2008, 09:46:41 PM »

I just recently got this router and I noticed that my wired computers are working at 1000mb/s.  For some reason this version has a gigabit switch for the LAN connections.

Can you please specify how you are getting a 1000mb connection?  Are you doing any file transferring?  Does your local area connection on your computers state "connected at 1000mb?"  Just so we can be clear as this should not be giving you gigabit speeds.

The Status windows in Windows Vista says 1.0Gb/s connection.

Are all the computers Vista?  Do you have XP computers that say the same?  How many computers do you have connected in total and do they all say 1gb?  You only mention the vista computer.

What firmware is on the router?

I only have 2 computers.  One is connected wired with Vista, and it is saying a gigabit connection.  The other is a notebook that connects wirelessly with XP on it.  The notebook does not have gigabit connection, so I can not test to see if it connects that way.  I have firmware 2.24.

So then you have a gigabit card on your Vista computer?  If that is the case, I assume your network card is auto sensing the connection.  What you may want to do is force the speed to 1000mbps on the card to see if it still connects at 1gb.  Also, what kind of cable are you using?  Cat5, Cat5e or Cat6?

Yes I have a gigabit NIC card on the Vista machine.  I am using Cat6 cables and I tried forcing the 1000mb/s connection and it worked.  I also tried the same NIC card with another router that I know does not have a gigabit switch and it connected at 100/mb/s.  So the B2 version of this router has a gigabit switch.  I guess its something that they wanted to leave out to sell more of the DIR-655.  I think the DIR-615, DIR-625, and DIR-655 have the same internals but different firmware for features, what do you guys think?
