Hi,
I have recently purchased a DNS-343 along with x4 500 gig HD's and everything has been going really well.
I setup the drives as Raid 5 and noticed the email setup on the device to which I configured. Although only having this unit for one week I'm impressed so far.
Last night the NAS sent me an email stating HDD 4 failed so I logged in and under status I now see for 'syncing' the status as 'degraded'. Everything seems ok when copying to and from device and the drive shows up each time I reset and turn on. I have tried firmware and multiple restarts but get the email each time on startup stating HDD 4 failed.
Could someone please help as I'm pretty sure its not the drive as its brand new and data appears to be flowing to it.
Thankyou.
UPDATE:
Firmware: version=1.01(1.16.0523.2008) ( downloaded from d-link AUS site )
Error Email: HDD4 Hard Drive Has Failed. Sincerely, Your DNS-343

Hmmm...wondering if the 'SMART' feature of modern HDDs have anything to do with the NAS reporting a drive failure.

First - brand new drives can fail - I'm not saying that it has, just pointing out that you should not assume that it hasn't simply because it's brand new - more importantly - how can you tell that "data appears to be flowing to it"?

Please update to firmware 1.02 and reformat your drives.

Done, it actually rescyned the drive without format and works perfect now.
Many thanks! :)
