Unable to uninstall D-ViewCam software from Vista
« on: October 18, 2009, 07:48:42 AM »

Can anyone provide me some links into the help documentation so I can try to re-install (and then uninstall) the D-ViewCam software. When I try to uninstall, it errors out, so some needed uninstall files must be missing.

 ???

Searching for "D-ViewCan" on the main dlink.com website produces no usable hits...

Thanks

UPDATE:

I found and downloaded the D-Link D-ViewCam 2.03 install through a link on one of the Digital Video products, but running it to re-install gives exactly the same error I saw during attempts to uninstall:

Error 1316.A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file
C:\Windows\Installer\D-Link D-ViewCam.msi

(I confirmed that that file is not in C:\Windows\Installer .. but is in C:\Windows\DownloadedInstallations)

It appears I can't go backwards or forwards. I'm stuck. HELP

FWIW, I went sideways, with good results. Read On  :D

I copied and pasted the .msi file from where I found it (c/o Windows Search) to where the uninstaller Error message said it was expecting it, reran the installer, and the uninstall completed successfully.

Maybe this will help someone else!

Error 1316 is a known Windows error condition.  We've had this problem on the Palm Inc. site too with PC users trying to uninstall software.

1. Go to Microsoft Support Article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301.

2. From Microsoft Support Article 290301, download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to your desktop computer.

3. Run the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility file you downloaded.

4. The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will create a folder here:

C:\Program Files\Windows Installer Clean Up

5. Open the folder. You will find an application called Msicuu.exe.

6. Run the Msicuu.exe application.

7. You will see window listing various third-party applications. Pick the one you wish to delete.
