Any status on this?

 ???

Hi. I can try the different channels as suggested, but I don't think interference is the issue - next nearest Wi-Fi is 200m (600ft) away and barely detectable. Locking the channel was more about turning off auto scan.

The DSL modem is set to forward everything (DMZ) to the 810L at 10.1.1.3. The 810L is set to 10.1.1.3 ("static IP") and everything is currently working ok. The DSL modem has no Wi-Fi and I don't think it has any filtering enabled. I have a web-enabled GPS receiver set up on a virtual server / static local address behind the 810L, and I can see that from 'outside' (work) so I know the inbound routing is going ok.

Next thing to try (if it doesn't remain stable) is Factory Reset then reload the current configuration file, although I doubt that's much different from just power-cycling it. Then of course there's Factory Reset + setup manually from scratch.

Anyway, it's up at the moment, and the weekend is coming (lots of teenager gaming, so lots of comments if it's misbehaving). Will keep you posted. Many thanks.

Hi.

A few weeks back I built a cardboard hood with a CPU fan to suck air through the device in case it was a heat issue. It did actually improve the stability of connections somewhat, but not completely, and considering it's winter here in NZ and the cupboard where the router lives is typically at only 10 - 15 deg (C) / 50 - 60 (F), if it needs cooling now what will happen in summer? I'd send you a photo but you have 'attachments' turned off...

"improve the stability of connections somewhat" - it now only drops Wi-Fi connections occasionally (perhaps 1x/hour) and cabled connections stayed up without problems (2-hour skype call no problem, skype phone not resetting/reconnecting on a daily basis, etc).

I tried a factory reset and set up all over again, and it still gives me occasional Wi-Fi dropouts. I'm going to have to take this back to the shop and get another unit / different model. It just isn't reliable enough.

Routers need to be placed on a shelf or desk in a open area for best ventilation and air flow. If any additional air is meeded a Laptop cooler can be used.

The cupboard where it lives is a full walk-in wardrobe with open-wire (powder-coated) shelving. Air can move around freely. However I still had issues even with a cpu fan attached, so either I need to drill holes in the router's box and crank up the fan speed, or that isn't the issue. If it really has cooling issues at 60F with forced ventilation then that's not really good enough for a retail product to be called "fit for purpose".

I've been checking out the Parental Controls options on other D-Link models available at my retailer. They are either insufficient or the devices cost twice what the 810 does. What a shame - it seemed like the perfect solution for me. :-(

This open wire shelving metal? If so this could be one cause of bad wireless. Placement in wooden or non-metallic materials is preferable...
