SD Playback over LTE (when not on home WiFi)

D-Lancelot:
Just got the D-Link DSH-C310.    Not too happy with the fish-eye and how far away and distorted everything looks, but we are working on an alternative placement that may improve things.

A main concern:  given that SD Playback is not going through HomeKit and that you have to use the OMNA app, is there a SECURE way to enable viewing recorded videos over LTE - as when on the road and you are not connected to your home WiFi?    Does anybody know if you can view recorded videos when on a WiFi network that is NOT the network that HomeKit is running on?  If so, what security is in place?

FurryNutz:
No experience as of yet with this unit. I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

you have to setup your home kit hub first which is my apple tv but it can be apple tv or an iPad.  Once that is setup then you can view the camera over LTE.

Thanks for this information. Hope it help future users.

I think some people misunderstood my post.    YES, as soon as I got the D-Link Camera, I added it to my HOME that is running on my Apple TV 4th GEN as the hub.  What I stated in my first post is that it is NOT currently possible to ACCESS and VIEW  the SD Card's ** RECORDED ** files when you are not on your LAN.  You CAN view a LIVE feed from the camera over LTE (when not on your LAN).

I confirmed this severe limitation with D-LINK - that there is NO support, currently, for viewing RECORDED files residing on the SD card REMOTELY (that is, when you are away from your home network where the camera is located).   Are they working on it?  I am not convinced this is a limitation of the HOME app.  If you can stream a live view in HD, you should be able to pull a file off the SD card and send it securely through the HomeKit (HOME) app.

As such, I don't find this camera very useful.  If I'm away from home at work or am traveling and I want to check recorded files, I can't.  The OMNA app itself doesn't have support for poking a hole in your router and setting up a port with authentication to the camera (this is what I do for my current system in place using Security Spy).

Nor does D-Link provide access to the recorded files from within the HOME app, which is ideally what you want.   Sure, from the HOME app, I can few a live feed whether I'm on my LAN or using LTE.  But there is no access to recorded videos when not on my LAN.

So I think I will be returning this camera and will wait until there is a camera (or wait until D-Link adds remote viewing of recorded files SECURELY) that provides this feature.   Like others, I do not want to go with a service that stores my files online.  I do prefer local storage, but without remote viewing of the stored files, the camera is not very useful to me.

Oh, and there is no support for ** digital zoom ** (yet?).  But if you look at the HomeKit API for developers at the Apple site, there is an API for digital zoom.  I hope D-Link adds the ability to do digital zoom in a firmware upgrade ASAP.
