Hello, The DSM-510 will play a .avi film for 1h30 but then it stops claiming it's a server connextion problem. I'm hooked up to Vista trought Wmp11. if i go "back" and then back to the film and hit "resume" it will do it (resume from where i was).. Any ideas wy it's doing that?

Yep, experienced the same a while back (wmp11 and xp). Seems like once it hits a gig, or something, it stops. Like you said, if you start again (resume), it continues. Best I can figure, it is not a DSM-510 issue because it has not happened since I switched to another server. Best of luck.

I've been saying the same thing for months. Mine stops 2 hours into the film (no matter how large the file is). I'm using XP and WMP11. The DSM510 stops, BUT the DSM520 does not stop. And you are correct - I've tried other media servers and they do not cause the dsm510 to stop, but for security reasons I'm stuck with wmp11. I sure wish dlink would find and SOLVE this problem. It certainly may be that WMP is partly to blame, but since other products do not exhibit this same behaviour, it does seem that it can be resolved by correcting the firmware.

When you start a movie, would you pause it for a length of time (say 15 minutes), then see if the film will stop 15 minutes earlier? That's how it is with mine. I would say if nothing else, that proves several things (#1) movies are encoded correctly, and (#2) it's not a "file size issue".

What do you mean by this? Do you mean stuck with Windows?

Yes in a way.. WMP is the only media player that I have found that will allow me an easy way to tag each video so it will or won't play in certain rooms of my house. I've got multiple machines in different rooms (including the kids rooms) that they watch videos on - and I can flag a machine in the kids room to only play videos with a G or PG rating. I can then rate the files appropriately in the media server. This seems like such a trivial thing I don't know why other media servers don't (won't) support it.

Same here, I have been missing this feature ever since I left WMP11. With other servers, you would have to have several instances running, each with its own rating settings I guess. I have only 1 player for now, so it is not a true problem for me, yet. Thanks for sharing.

Do you see this issue on all video types played? Have you tried .wmv .mpeg and .avi?

I've only tried AVI files - using XVID or DIVX (same problem with both). I've also used different encoding programs (fair use, divx encoder, gordian knot) etc. I won't use mpeg-2 because of the outrageous file sizes.

Have you tried the Nero program provided it works very well with this software. Unfortunately it does not support Vista though.
Another thing are you connected wirelessly?
