HI Folks We are large ISP looking at COVR 2202. We sell thousands of DLINK routers but very disappointed with the COVR provided by DLINK for testing.
Lastest Firmware V1.04
HW = 2202
COVR A Unit Lan 1 = Router, Lan 2 = second COVR unit

No useful information in the manual, forum or V1.04 release notes

Questions

1. How can you tell if Ethernet backhaul is working ?
2. How do you configure Ethernet backhaul ?
3. What Lan Port does the second COVR unit need to have the Ethernet connected to
4. Does the A node need to be Bridge/AP mode ?

Hope I dont have to waste to much more time on this issue

What is the Sq ft size of this house?

Questions

1. How can you tell if Ethernet backhaul is working ? The B points are connected via ethernet backhaul, the front LED should remain WHITE. Unfortunately there isn't any A Point UI indication of wifi vs wired connection. We've asked D-Link to add this feature. Just know that the front LED should be WHITE for both wireless or wired connection. IF you see Amber, then the B point isn't connected.

2. How do you configure Ethernet backhaul ? I recommend setting up the B points wirelessly first near the A point. One the Points are wirelessly connected and show WHITE on the front LED, then connect them one at a time to the A point using the ethernet connection. A non managed, non green ethernet switch is recommended connected to the A point. Then connect the B points to this switch.

3. What Lan Port does the second COVR unit need to have the Ethernet connected to: #1 though I think both will work.

4. Does the A node need to be Bridge/AP mode ? Ethernet backhaul works in either mode.

Why do you recommend not using a green switch? Is this general advice, or are there specific/known problems with using one?

Seen odd issues with these kinds of switches in the middle. From experience. You can try them and see if they work for your needs. D-Link DGS-10x series work ok. I also use HP ProCurve 1400/1800 series switches.

On that topic, "some" documentation are referring to a "dedicated" ethernet backhaul. Strictly speaking that may mean than only the COVRs components should be connected to that switch.

I don't and it seems to be working so far, but I am still not sure if my setup is 100% correct.

So as long as the A point and B Points are on the same switch, then the COVR system will work when Ethernet connected to the switch. I would presume that if the A point was connected to say a up stream switch or router and the B point was connected in parallel to this switch or router, the B point may not work well in this configuration. So the B point must be daisy chained and connected behind the A point.

I downgraded to FW v1.04 and am connected A > switch > B, and the system is still not stable. This afternoon I could not connect any device to the WiFi, though the lights were white on both points, and the SSID was available. Trying to join the network gave me a wrong password error. I restarted A and then could access the network again with the password saved on my devices.

I’m using a Trendnet Green 4-port unmanaged switch. I could use a couple extra ports, but I don’t know if the issue is with the switch or something else. When point B isn’t connected via Ethernet it seems to work fine.

Did you factory reset the A and B points after downgrading and setup from scratch?

Can you connect the B point with out the switch in between?
Possible this switch could be causing problems. Green Ethernet switches can cause problems.
Had this worked before you upgraded to v1.05?

Thanks for the report! I guess I’m buying a DSG-108 switch. I need a couple more ports and read that D-Link tech support had recommended it for use with COVR networks.

Yep, will work fine for you. I even put on a DGS-1100 managed switch behind the 2202. Worked well. Let us know how it goes.
