I confirm that the DIR-505 works well in hotels (Hilton chain for me). I tried both wired ethernet connection (router mode) and WiFi hotspot mode.

The only thing that did not work was getting connectivity for my Chromecast dongle for some reason (might be related to DNS, not too sure why it did not work) - this was a show-stopper for me.
