DGS-1210-28 DHCP request problem

(1/1)

Speederer:
Hi,

I have a DGS-1210-28 switch that gets IP address from the DHCP server. My router works as a DHCP server, but none of them have UPS. So if there is a power outage both devices reboot. Probably the switch is faster than the router, because it doesn't get any IP address from the DHCP server, instead it will have the factory default 10.90.90.90 IP address. All my devices can handle this situation properly, except this switch. I assume they try more times to get an IP from the DHCP server, but the D-Link switch doesn't. If I reboot the switch manually (while the router works), it can get a proper IP address. Although I didn't collect traffic capture (tcpdump), but this is what I experienced.
I think it could work better.

FurryNutz:
To avoid this set a static IP address ON the switch that's outside of the host routers DHCP IP address pool.

Speederer:
Yes, you are right, that can be a solution.
I just wanted to pay the attention to this behaviour.

FurryNutz:
Something to contact D-Link about and ask...
