Title: DSL-2642B
Post by: mitchellstokes on November 08, 2014, 05:34:55 PM
My D-Link DSL-2642B's wireless connection keeps dropping. The LAN connection is fine however the wireless seems to drop randomly (Or when the traffic on the router is high).

Running firmware:
Current Firmware Version :   AU_2.10
Current Firmware Date :   20101006

What I've done:

We have around 5-6 devices on the network at any one time. The dropouts occur if we are downloading/listening to music/doing anything other than looking at static webpages (Exaggeration but thats what it feels like). I have to unplug the router and replug it for it to restart and allow us to reconnect.

Ideas?

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.
