I have different cameras but all are defined as  802.11b/g/n Wireless Connectivity,  no other wireless devices with use their router,  which has many different 802.11 choices,  on is "N-only".   Is it better to set to N only?  Does it matter?

If your router is set to "N-only", then you should set your camera to the same since there are no B/G networks available for connectivity.

Thanks, I understand that I can run in N-only. 

the question is will performance be better running N-only or mixed because camera can run in b or G or N mode. I understand that N-only is technically better,  but that doesn't mean the cameras were designed to run better connected to a N-only rourer setting.   I looked in detail and the WIFI power setting for my cameras are  higher when it runs in B or G mode.  in N-mode the RF power is lower by 2db.

Depending on what the cameras support, and if you have any other devices, generally, if other modes are not being utilized, you can set a single mode on the main host router. However be aware that if interferences or connection problems occur, single mode connections have no fall back safety net with the other modes being shut off so this might make trouble shooting a bit harder.

B and G mode standards had higher out put on some routers. Also changing from mixed mode to single mode generally had higher out put and range as well on some routers.

Wireless Transmit Output Power    16dbm for 11b, 12dbm for 11g, 12dbm for 11n (typical)


I got some numbers wrong but B is 4dbm more, making the power transmission out of the camera in the N mode at about 40% the power of the B mode.

Bases on WiFi standards, B mode I believe will have a higher output.

Thanks for the input FurryNutz,   I like tweeking,  but in the end I'm running in N-only mode and its been very stable since I gave my access point WIFI router a different SSID from main one, even though they are on a different channels I would get conflicts which could only be resolved most time by changing mobile device SSID or channel but it was a pain and not consistant.

With respect to accessing video (I have 6 cameras which I ran at full bandwidth (20 fps, 640x480, high quality)  I like stressing things to see stability.

1) DCAM View from PC (LAN connected)
2) Justconnect+ form Iphone or IPAD (ususally on 5 ghz band)
3) Justconnect+ from android table (ASUS MeMO) on 2.5ghz band
4) IP CAM view (all mobiles)
5) DCAM View from mobile devices ( I hate how slow it is to see the video)
6) mydlink Lite from mobile ( also slow to see video)

some comments:
DCAM View on PC is so solid and 2&3 are almost a tie and might be equal if my Droid was higher end.

One thing about IP Cam view thats nice is the overlay color turns red when the connection is not working,  this is very important knowing if the feed is live or not. But I don't like the green like not blinking when viewing all videos together.

I don't like the fact that the cameras don't stay on the wifi channel that you set them to in infrastructure mode.
