Cannot connect to 880L after setting it to bridge mode
« on: July 25, 2016, 02:42:32 PM »

After setting the router the to bridge mode, the router reboots and cannot be accessed. I set the computer to static IP and connect it to the router with cable on a LAN port. Tried the setting:

IP address: tried 192.168.0.45, 192.168.0.49, 192.168.0.51, 192.168.0.99
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.50

but still cannot access it. Rebooted the router for multiple times. Current firmware version is 1.05WW. Checked for new firmware but it prompts that this is the latest version.

Any idea? Thank you!

Did you try 192.168.0.50?

If that doesn't work, change the router back to router mode, go in and change the IP address of the router from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.88, save the setting and it may reboot, let it, then go in and enable bridge mode. Then use 192.168.0.88 as the access IP address while in bridge mode,

Hello Sigmod,

The bridge IP address should be whatever you set up at the Setting/internet page when you selected Bridge mode if you selected static. If you left it on Dynamic IP address, you will need to connect to the device and using its local DNS name (http://dlinkrouter.local) your should be able to find it on the network and connect you to its GUI.
If you want to find out the IP of the unit when left in DHCP do the following:

1. Connect to the LAN port or even the WAN port (in Bridge Mode this port becomes part of the LAN) the unit defaults to an APIPA address on a network without DHCP server and so would your computer. These addresses are on the 169.254.XXX.XXX IP address space, so if you ping its device name "dlinkrouter" it will return his current IP.

2. Open your browser and type, http://dlinkrouter.local/ or the IP address that shows up in the ping  results to open up its configuration pages.

3. Choose the Wireless SSID (stronger signal better, 5Ghz preferred) you would like to bridge to and save the settings.

Enjoy your bridge

Yes, I've tried to use this address to access. I also changed the IP as you mentioned, but cannot access it either. Thank you!

Thank you for your help! However, I cannot open http://dlinkrouter.loca/ or ping dlinkrouter or ping 192.168.0.50

Do you have the 880L connect to a main host router on the LAN port side along with your PC?
I think a step is being missed here...
You are able to access the 880Ls web page after doing a factory reset correct?

Yes, 880L is connected to another internet switch with cable on the WAN port and the computer is connected to the 880L with cable on the LAN port. Yes, I can access it after factory reset.

Then why would you waste your time setting the 880L in bridge mode?  if you have a WIRE connected to the WAN port coming from another router/switch you don't need bridge mode, you need AP mode, bridge is only useful when you CAN NOT bring a wire to the location where the 880L is, reason why you use the DIR-880L Wireless connection to your first Router WiFi signal, so other devices that can only connect using Ethernet can share the Bridged Wifi connection.  I think we are confusing the mode of operations of the DIR-880L with  a mode of operation of a cable Modem/router, maybe?
At this point, if you disconnect the WAN port, you will be able to access the config page of the router after rebooting it.

Give it a try, let us know if it works.

Do you need wireless bridge or AP? If you need the 880L to work just as a wireless AP, review this:
Turning a router into an AP.

Oh, ok. I'm using the bridge mode in the hope of letting the 880L broadcast Wi-Fi signal without NAT. How can this be done? Thank you!
