Title: Bravia Android TVs which can't access (browse nor play media files) via VLC for Android the SMB/CIF
Post by: nettewurk on October 02, 2019, 10:38:47 PM
I'm sorry but this inquiry might be addressed in different thread.  It's about my Bravia Android TVs which can't access (browse nor play media files) via VLC for Android the  SMB/CIF shared file in this NAS with firmware 1.11b01.  Didn't notice if the marshmallow/nougat auto update of TV or manual update of NAS from 1.08 caused this problem.  Even NFS service is activated, still can't access these files.  Tried using VLC for Lollipop on phone but I'm still getting the same result.  Can't isolate the problem and how to resolve media play via NAS connection.  uPnP can access the media file but not its SRT/subtitle files.   Is this SMB related problem?  VLC for iOS can access the media files but for Android devices (smartTV/tablet/phone) could not

Any progress on this?

No development on this.  Android seems to prohibit SMBv1/CIFS access and on top of NFS gives the same result.  Tried installing the Samba package for DNS-320L but getting the same result.  Since iPhone iOS and Lumia/PC Windows can still access the NAS so the TV/phone Android's is the problem.  Anyway, thanks.  Resigned to use UPNP of NAS but closed caption is not possible unless IDX captioning is used, instead of SRT.
