Just wondering if anyone has switched from the DGL-5500 to the DIR-890L, and if so, would be willing to offer up feedback / experience(s). I'm specifically looking for some feedback regarding gaming (Xbox One x2 / Xbox 360 x2) and how the DIR-890L compares to the DGL-5500 in that aspect. I'm currently using the DGL-5500 as my main router and the DIR-868L as an AP. The DGL-5500 has been doing a great job, but I'm thinking about upgrading my router(s). I'd consider making the DGL-5500 an AP connecting it to the upgraded router (DIR-890L or DIR 895L) for the Streamboost Technology when gaming if needed / recommended.
I'm also considering holding out for the DIR-895L. It's still showing a 2015 release.

Gaming on the 890L has been good. Better than the 5500.
The 868L has better radios, range and wireless speed support than the 5500 does. My 868L is set up as my 2ndary AP.
The 5500 is the only model router to have StreamBoost. SB does not appear on any other model router nor will it.

I'm definitely gonna pull the trigger and replace my 5500 with either the 890L or 895L (when it finally gets relesed). I'm gonna keep the 868L as my secondary AP as it performs well in that aspect.
At least my boxed-up DGL-4500 won't be so lonely in the closet now - the DGL-5500 will soon join it to keep it company. :D

I still have my 4500 too! It's retired ;D and waiting for the 5500 to retire and keep it company :) I might head to Fry's Electronics this morning at grab the 890L.

Just placed an order for the D-Link DIR-890L :D
I got a pretty SWEET deal through Best Buy ($289.99 - $30 DLink Promo Code = $259.99 + tax AND FREE SHIPPING) It's scheduled to arrive on Friday! Excited to get it set up! I'm guessing now that I ordered it, the DIR-895L will be released. I guess if that happens, I can always revert the DIR-890L to a AP ;D
I'll take any suggestions / tips / tidbits of info regarding the DIR-890L. In the mean time, I'm gonna peruse the DIR-890L forum once again for a "refresher" on the 890L.
The DGL-5500 will soon be "retired" and boxed up, and joining the DGL-4500 in a closet. ;)

I probably won't be able to get the 890L up and running until Friday sometime :(
Any suggestions with settings for two Xbox One's gaming consoles and two Xbox 360 gaming consoles? I'd like to make sure they have priority over anything else ;D Also, I'm wiling to try any suggested settings you might recommend and report back any findings ;D

Am I able to set up the 890L without an internet connection (disabling WIFI on iMac and connecting ethernet cable from iMac to 890L)?

I finally got around to setting up the D-Link DIR-890L ;D So far, all is good and I really like what I see (interface / speeds / stability) :)
After some "digging" around the menus, I was able to find where I can 'RESERVE" IP addresses. ;D

Are there any drawbacks for setting devices connected to my home network outside the DHCP range (.100-.199)? I have some "miscellaneous" devices that I never need to access via an IP address.
How about iPhones / iPads?

Thanks Furry :) Just wondering if you have an example of a device / devices not needing "router management" vs a device / devices needing "router management"?
Obviously, I'm planning on keeping gaming consoles (two xbox one gaming consoles / two xbox 360 gaming consoles) and computers (iMac / MB Pro Retina / MB Air) within the DHCP pool, but I'm not sure what I can set outside the DHCP pool. Are devices outside the DHCP pool given priority / bandwidth allocation over devices inside the DHCP pool?

Any chance of starting a "D-Link DIR-890L & Console Gaming" thread? I've noticed a SIGNIFICANT improvement when running the "Detailed Network Statistics" test on the Xbox One using the DIR-890L vs DGL-5500. It seems the Xbox One is reporting a much faster DOWNLOAD / UPLOAD speeds closer to what I subscribe to (100Mbps Down / 5Mbps Up). Happy about that!!!! ;D I'm thinking other gamers using D-Link routers / non D-LInk routers might be interested in how the 890L performs in regards to online gaming.
I'm also seeing OPEN NAT on both Xbox One gaming consoles ;)
