Title: Router stuck in recovery mode
Post by: neebsk on October 19, 2016, 10:39:34 AM
My router is stuck in recovery mode, i tried restoring my settings back to factory and now it just boots up into recovery mode. I have tried to flash stock firmware again however whenever i do it just says upgrade successful and doesn't reboot, whenever i reboot it myself it just boots back up into recovery mode. I have tried google chrome, firefox and IE, also disabling internet security on my pc but still nothing.

Link>Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48135.0)

What version of FW are you attempting to load?

Your PC is wired LAN cable with the router and all other LAN cables including the ISP modem cable are disconnected?
Be sure to clear the browsers cache before connecting to the router with the browser, then send the FW file. Then clear the browser afterwards.

Ok, lets try this.
Download the 1st initial FW version, v1.01..Whats listed here:
http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/downloads2008detail.asp (http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/downloads2008detail.asp)
Select DIR then 880L and GO.
Download v1.01 to your desktop.
Be sure to unpack the .zip file  ;)

Follow this and start from the beginning while the router is OFF:
Emergency Recovery Mode (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=44909.msg163599#msg163599)
Be sure to set a static IP address on your PC first.
Let's use IE11 this time, clear it's cache, close and restart IE11 and start at the beginning and walk thru the steps in the link.

Let us know if you can get v1.01 loaded or not...Then we'll go from there.

In all browsers? http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/downloads2008.asp (http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/downloads2008.asp) Open to all.
If you can't gain access, send me a pm and I'll email you the FW file you need.

And you followed the process of holding in the reset button?

This same behavior seem w v1.07?
What Windows version are you using?
Ill have to chk on the LED behavior when tur file is sent. I presume it should remain amber.

Hmm. Any chance you have acess to a windows 7 PC?  Seens some networking issues w 10. I haven't tried doing a recovery on 10 w my 880 as of yet. I have w my DGL-5500 using ie11.

Possible that the routers recovery side is hosed all around.

Darn. Ok, youll need to phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for an RMA. Wish we could have recovered it.

How long warranty do these usually have?

I don't know. The warranty policy as each region handles that a bit differently. I presume they will let you know when you contact them.

FYI DLINK Recovery does nothing with my W7/W10 even with firewall off, some weird networking issue I think.  The recovery worked in Win XP + firefox!!! and that was extremely easy - I wanted to share this with someone else that may encounter this issue and waste 5 hours of their life trying to do DLINK Recovery.
