Really? You shouldn't have had to buy anything man. Of course I haven't played it in a while. I'll stick it in tonight and see. You don't have to buy anything to play the game or online. However DLC does limit some games in match making, like playing on different maps. COD and Halo are like this. Not sure about GOW though.

Yeah, Harry the DLC are the maps, but any updates that XBL does are free.

I think I know what happened.  You were trying to play a map, probably with friends, and got the cross mark through the gear.  You don't have to play that map, you can go to another one.

But PS3 will have the same thing.  Any DLC for Gears, COD, etc. is $14.95 or X amount of Microsoft Points.

No, I was trying to play GOW 2, Hoard, Social Match. I could play online, but only with friend invites. As soon as I turned the mode to "Social" a popup said "One of the players does not have the required Maps to play", and then would list off the 3 DLCs. I see why they did it. If they were going to allow anyone to play those maps, they had to require everyone to have those maps. Or how would Veto work? I just think it should only be required in Rank, not Social.

Yes, that's true.  In order to play any map, you have to have that map.  But that's all the games.  Don't be discouraged, young Jedi.

I understand that its required to have a map to play it, that is obvious. :-p What I meant is most games don't require you to have ALL the maps in order to play a certain game type. The whole point of Casual hoard mode was to pick up the game and play hoard for a few matches, then drop out. Before I could play, I had to pay 20-25$ and 45-50min downloading several GBs worth of DLC. Since they all wouldn't fit on my 4GB drive, I even had to buy a 125$ drive. So in a way, the game cost me 3times as much to play Hoard on Social then it did to buy the actual game. That is just silly. I am hoping other 360 games aren't like that.

On a brighter note, I absolutly LOVE Fallout 3. Kind of makes me feel old, because I remember playing the original Fallout on the PC. Ahhh yea, check out those graphics. Running smoooth on my Pentium MMX chip. Dude..it had a 14.4 modem. Don't hate. LOL

Just for giggles last nite I put my GOW2 in and played one MP game. Man I'm I rusty on that game. I didn't have to DL any stuff to play online.  ;)

Ohhhh, I see what you're saying now.  Yeah, that does suck.

At Target/Wal Mart/Gamestop I saw the Gears 1, Gears 2 and all map packs for a total price of $30.  Great deal for anyone who's never played.

I would also check out craigslist or ebay or amazon for used games, no need to waste money on games that have been out for a while. Get'em cheap if you can.

What console did you get if I might ask? There is one that I don't recommend, the Arcade one, if you want HDMI.  ::)

You know I saw that? But It was 10$ more then the GOW2 and I was like "that would just be a waste of money". Doh!

As for what console I got, I got the Xbox 360 S 4GB with the 250GB harddrive upgrade. Which actually gives me 254GB. What I was curious about is there any performance difference between using the 4GB or the 250. The 4GB is internal..so I assume Flash? Also, if I store one part of the file on one drive, and the rest on the other, does that give me any performance boost? I know it probably doesn't matter, but it got me curious. Now I just have to get off my butt and drill a hole into my livingroom and run some ethernet out there.

Ya I think it's a flash card.

I was mentioned in the early days not to copy the games to the HDD. I didn't look into this further however after experiencing some ROM drive problems here and there over the years, helping the ROM drive to last a bit longer by putting the games on the HDD is prudent. Thus I have graduated to doing this. I don't notice much of a difference however there could be a difference in that the game and console are not relying upon ROM Drive accessing the disk vs waiting on the HDD read times which I presume are much faster.

Well consider this an experience and lessons learned about gaming on XBL. Maybe next time you'll come visit us here in the forums or on XBL and ask questions next time if you need?  ::)

So heres a questions for you remote networking gurus out there, IF ANY.  :P

Is there an simple and easy application for windows or setup process in windows that I can share out a folder and let someone from the WAN side of the internet gain access and upload and download things from said shared folder?
Ya, I'm talking P2P. Nothing public, this is private. Something besides using messengers to send files and such. Not sure if VPN would work and I don't have any experience with that, yet.

I don't have an actual NAS. Just a PC, windows 7 and things shared out for LAN stuff.
