Title: Problem getting D-Link DSL G256DG to play nicely with my other routers
Post by: emayer on May 15, 2016, 01:21:18 PM
Forgive me -- I know these forums are meant for US products, but I'm at the end of my rope and don't know what else to do.

I received a D-Link DSL G256DG from my ISP here in Israel. I can't find this model or any manuals or help with it on Google, so I'm guessing it's some kind of project between my ISP and D-Link. It's a DSL modem / AC router and was required by the ISP to enable higher DSL speeds. My house is constructed of reinforced concrete, so in order to cover the whole place, I have two or three additional routers deployed where needed. In the past, I had a plain old DSL modem feeding Internet access to an ASUS RTN16 which handled DHCP, and then the other routers (a Netgear and an old D-Link) had DHCP disabled and just served as access points (or occasionally I had them configured to do DHCP on their own reserved section of IP addresses). Once I replaced the plain old modem with the D-Link DSL G256DG modem / router, the other routers on the system could "see" the DSL G256DG, but when I tried accessing the Internet via those other routers, I would get a momentarily normal-speed response, but then after just a few seconds, the speed would dial immediately down to basically zero and I couldn't get any usable connectivity through those secondary routers. Connectivity remains totally normal when connecting directly (wired or wirelessly) to the DSL G256DG. Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks

You'll need to check with the ISP to see who is supporting the modem officially, sometimes D-Link gives the HW to ISPs and in turn they develop there own FW for it.

Regard your other units working as 2ndary APs, Please review this:

Thanks for responding. I'm reading the links you provided. Meanwhile, the hardware version is A1 and the firmware version is 1.00.03 (firmware update is locked on the device -- when I click on firmware update, the interface tells me "Only admin account can access this page!").

Be sure to set 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channels between all units to different and far apart channels. Modem set to 11/36, Others set to 1 and 6 on 2.4Ghz.

If you can't access the admin account then you'll need see if your ISP allows for that. Some don't.  ::)
