DLINK 865 and iPhone Problem
« on: December 13, 2012, 11:01:49 PM »

Problem:

All setups in default.
No(!) LAN connected (the DIR 865 is only used as an internal Wifi station)

As soon you connect an iPhone4S/iPodTouch5 you get a message (from the router to the iPhone):

"OOPS The page you requested is not available..."

On the Router Setup the iPhone is shown with the IP and the MacAdress
On the iPhone no IP-, no Subnet-, no Router adress. Only the DNS adress of the router 192.168.0.1

Any ideas how to get an iPhone conected?

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
Double NAT
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask.

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.

Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed

Link>Wireless Installation Considerations
What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.

Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.

Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

My 4S works great on my 865 with default settings

Hi Futrry Nutz

thank you for the answer(s)

All settings youz had mentioned checked - no chance.

If you onw this router just try one thing: disconnect internet (all cables) then try to connect an iPhone IiPod tpouch to the router.

Again: not internet connection or other ISP service connected. The router is stand alone and only used for wireless use within a LAN in other words: the only cable hooked on the router is the powercable.

Regards & happy new year

I don't have an iPod Touch however after receiving this router, I reported that initially I connected my iPhone 4S to the router and used DLinks QRS app to initially set up the router using the 4S with success before going online with it. I presume the 4S worked with the router at that point. After connecting the router to the ISP modem, the 4S worked well as all the other devices in my house.

I believe that when any DIR series router is not connected to the ISP modem that there will be a default message to be displayed on the browser that there is something wrong. Even if the typing in URL address is incorrect, you might see this error message. Its there for a reason to let you know that it can not get to the address or there is a problem with the address.

You should be able to access the routers web page UI both online and offline from the ISP modem on any DIR series router. I usually configure all my routers OFF line until it's all set up, then go online.
