Title: VoIP trouble with 868L
Post by: stevens71 on May 22, 2017, 02:18:11 AM
Hey guys!
I really need some quick help from someone here. I am having trouble with using VoIP and Skype for business (http://www.thinktel.ca/blog/general-category/5-reasons-use-microsoft-skype-business/) over 868L. The Internet is working perfect and all other Internet activities are working flawlessly. My laptop is functioning well and Skype is working well at my office. I thought some Internet issues might have caused it and contacted ISP, but they deny any possible ISP side issues. Can someone help me troubleshoot the issue. I know there are some settings in the router that can make or break VoIP and Video calls. Any advice on how to use them to try and resolve this issue will be really helpful.

What modem is the 868L connected to?

You may need to open ports on the router. Go to the link below (scroll to the middle for list of ports).

Another option would be to use the routers DMZ. I use this for my VoIP device.

Thank you for the replies. The modem is DSL-520B which was bought just a few months back. After seeing your post, I tried connecting modem to Laptop directly through Ethernet cable and it works fine. So I think I can confirm that the issue is within the router. I will try both solutions and let you know the results.
Thanks again.

How exactly is Skype not working? Is it giving a error? Is there sound distortion?

Make sure "SIP" is enabled under Advanced > Firewall Settings > Application Level Gateway > SIP. Or see page 87-88 for more info.

The DSL-520B is a modem/router combo and must be in BRIDGE mode to work with another router (868L). A lot applications do not work going through 2 routers (double-NAT).

If you are using the 868L basically for wireless you may want to set it up as an access point.
