Constant blinking network light
« on: November 17, 2009, 11:40:04 AM »

Hello,
I have a DIR-655 and the network blue led is constantly blinking.
BUT on my Comcast MTA (Docsis 2.0 and I have phone/dig cable/internet) the LINK light is constantly blinking too. So I would think I am getting it from the MTA/modem.
Does anyone else 'seem' to have this problem or does anyone think my DIR-655 is finally taking a crap.
Below is the device information on the DIR-655.
I have NOT upgraded the firmware from 1.21 because I read online not just here but around of the problems people have with the "new" firmware upgrades and I don't want to brick my router. I just reboot it about every 4-5 days because of the dropped packets on the wireless. I up'd my Dell Inspirion to a mini-PCI 300Mbps card like a year ago. This annoyance I can deal with. I got 1 pc XP, 1 wired iMac, 1 wireless iMac, wireless iMac Macbook and my Dell laptop XP. Don't see a need to up to Win 7 either as my pc's will not be able to give me the "whole" experience with Win 7, and I like XP.
NOT that this is causing a problem, just want any FYI anyone can give.

The second LED from the left is supposed to blink if that is the one you are referring to.

Any other issues besides that? Connnectivity failures? There's supposed to be a LED blinking, just like KevTech says.

No, no other connectivity issues. I know the light should blink but it has become rapid in blinking even when the computers are all off.
ok
Just found a post in dslreports.com about this also.
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r21088493-DIR655-Internet-LED-And-DIR655-now-has-50GHz
so I guess it's just a normal thing now...
never really had this until about a month ago. Light would be on/off/on/off but not such a fast pace.

If you still have concerns; do not allow WAN ping respond. Disable UPnP. Make sure Remote Management is disabled. Setup the QoS measurement to a value manually. Let us know if you still have WAN activity. Though it's really not something to worry about.

Before you change anything in your settings because you are concerned about a blinking light.... does it all work? If so then I would leave well alone and not start playing with settings. Especially not your UpnP settings - that's going to add more problems than you solve by a remote chance you might stop a light blinking.

Disabling WLAN ping I would agree with, but it is disabled by default and unless you changed it that won't be a problem I hope.
