Do I need bridge mode or something else?
« on: May 31, 2014, 11:22:23 AM »

See the attached image for my setup.

I Have a long house and my cable modem is in the upstairs far corner from where our main TV/entertainment area is.  I don’t want to do a WiFi extender there is too much degradation to far side of house where video and heavier bandwidth activities happen.

I ran a hard line out from my DIR-868L (attached to cable modem) to a 2nd 868L on the far side of the house.  But after reading some of the various setup instructions for bridge mode, I'm not sure if that is what I need to do with the second one or not.  My main goal is to have the 2nd 868L broadcast the same WiFi SSID/pwd so that we have great laptop/iPad coverage on that end of the house AND have the hard lines for gaming console and bluray where we often stream Netflix (and don't want that to be on WiFi).

Do I have the right device (a 2nd 868L vs. something else)?
Do I set the 2nd one up in bridge mode?
Should I have the cable from wall jack coming in to the yellow internet IN port?
Any specifics on how do configure the wireless on bridge mode 868?  Is it like setting up the same WiFi SSID & pwd or should it be automatically carried through and broadcast?

I talked with a friend who has 2 Apple Airport Extremes and thought this would be the same as his setup, so I know enough to be dangerous on all this... but my first attempt was a train wreck, so I'm looking for some guidance.

Thanks!

Try this for the 2nd 868L:
Turning a router into an AP.
