You ever think there will be a day....
« on: March 07, 2010, 11:25:55 PM »

Where we can have a single firmware that works for everyones 4500 and put an end to everyones problems. I mean it has been released for a couple of years now and there is not firmware to maximize the full potential of this router with minimal error. The reason I ask is due to technology becoming outdated, how much better can routers be produced or have they leveled off ? Is the 4500 outdated? Is the gamefuel option of the 4500 still better than the majority out there, or is this feature also outdated. Lastly what would be considered the next generation of routers that are currently on the market? (please excuse any grammer errors, typed from iPhone)

There is no successor to the DGL-4500 as of yet.  Perhaps they're waiting to get the firmware right for the 4500 first.  At this rate, expect another couple of years of testing.  The same basically applies to the DIR-855 as well.

I'm sure there will be a follow on to the 4500, it may seem out of date and maybe it could be. However we can only strive to maybe help DLink in asking, requesting and posting our concerns and ideas of what we'd like to seen the next follow on. I will be interesting to see what the next follow on has and does, when and if they do.

Post your ideas in the FORUM USER REQUESTS and BUGS post I did. Let them know what you'd like to see and get fixed. There watching it.

Seems to me that if it is working properly, this is a blazing fast router (it has been for me right out of the box, no updates), and if you have higher requirements than the specs on this you probably need some professional equipment, not home networking stuff.  I'm more of light user at the moment though, so this thing is also probably over kill for me, but I got it new from Amazon for $125.

Just as zippoking said, I got mine recently from Amazon at a good price and updated the firmware from 1.14 to 1.15 only based on what others have said. I only get a few wireless errors but never losses.

I bet many of the current porblems are from  RF interference or user set up selections.
