DIR-657 User Experiences
« on: August 22, 2011, 09:06:14 AM »

So I just got this router. seems pretty good. so far. Haven't played much with the media services yet. And I don't have IPv6 yet from my ISP.

An item I notice right of the bat:
1. Adding in reserved IP addresses for my devices, the Dynamic clients list fails to report or list again them as being NEVER after being added to the reservation. Found this kinda odd and frustrating as other routers I use and test with don't do this. Makes it confusing when I thought I reserved it then it's not listed as being NEVER and missing totally from the list. Sometimes the UI doesn't even list a newly connected device. Wonder if I should turn off all devices and bring them on line one at a time while adding them?  ???

2. I notice this about all DIR series routers, any saved changes to the router, you have to wait for the router to reboot. Sure would be nice to have the option to reboot "Later" like the DGL series does. Waste a lot of time and if you don't get all the settings done before the web page times out, you just lost all your typed input. So I guess thats another option that would be nice, UI time out options.  >:(

So far this is a nice solid router. I configured the WiFi for single mode N at 2.4Ghz and the 300Mb connection. I connected my external wireless adapter to my 1st gen xbox 360 and it connected right away. Saw 260Mb connection speeds on the routers status page. The router sits in the next room from the bedroom were the xbox is, so about 10 feet or so way. Played MW2 for a long time Sat after noon. Saw a few lag issues here and there, didn't last long or it seemed to be coming from else where. Signal bars were full on green. Will test out wired connection this week and boxee over wireless.
