Title: DCS-932L vs DCS-942L ??
Post by: ShaneD on February 01, 2012, 06:49:40 PM
Anybody have both cameras??
Is the picture quality of the DCS-942L that much better than the DCS-932L ?
I know the 942 has the SD recording feature, but is it that much better??

Also, my 932L sometimes has problems trying to connect and show video on my iPhone. Is this better with the 942L?

(I want to get a DCS-942L, but just wanted to see what others thought...)

Anybody have any comments?

Thanks!

I can't speak to the video quality, as I only own the DCS-932L, but in addition to the factors you listed in you original post, the DCS-942L does have superior motion detection capabilities and email options over the DCS-932L.

I had both the 932 and 942. The video quality is about the same, the 942 is marginally better. The reasons to go with the 942 are:

1) As mentioned above. A dedicated PIR motion detector on the 942
2) H.264 compression and multi-stream capability
3) Slight improvements include: a much longer power wire and a larger diameter, better designed base
4) I think the SD card capability is huge. Although the max size SD card is not currently specified ANYWHERE by D-link. A call to tech support yesterday confirmed a 32GB max capacity. I am using a 16GB card but I'm having problems getting it to record video (on motion) to the SD card.
5) The web set-up interface is much better on the 942

Hello John,

I chose a DCS-942L eventually. But is DCS-942L compatible with SmartThings? I have a DCS-5020L and a DCS-942L now. I would like to be able to toggle the motion sensor in the camera.
I know it's an old topic, but perhaps someone could share the experience with DCS-942L.

Cheers,
Terry
