Title: DCS-933L - Can't view on iPhone mydlink App over cellular - (T-Mobile)
Post by: tcabrera on June 03, 2013, 08:25:43 AM
Hello,

I can't seem to get access to my camera DCS-933L on mydlink App (iPhone) when connected via cellular. I can access it outside of my home network via web browser or public WIFI on mydlink App so it can't possibly be a firewall issue. I just can't seem to connect to it via cellular and I have LTE so it's not a speed issue neither.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Tony

I am having the same issue. I can't access my camera via cellular on my iPhone. I can access over the web and wifi but when I try to go cellular using the app I get the following message:  "Could not connect to the device. Please try again later. (0.70_0_2_8_0)

Any help from D-Link or someone in the forum would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm not sure exactly why but cellular access to my camera seems to be working today.

I did enable port forwarding on my camera to see if that would make any difference. However, I also disabled it afterwards to see if that was the actual fix and I was still able to access it over a cellular connection. So I don't know if this is a permanent fix or not but if I don't have access again in the future I'll try enabling it again to see if this repairs the issue.

Thanks

was the cause of this ever determined?

My connection via my iOS when over mobile is now having the same exact problem.
Over wifi works fine.

Sorry no, I never got a solution but eventually mine did start working for whatever reason. I think it does have something to do with the cellular connection though because in some locations I've had it not work and in others it does. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck!

I had the same problem. The myDLink Lite app uses 3 connections to Amazon EC2 (the cloud provider for MyDlink). All TCP connections to port 2047, 2048 and 80. I noticed when I go to 3G/cellular (instead of WiFi) my port 80 connection was going to my Cell provider's (Bell Mobility) Web proxy which handles all port 80 traffic (which I thought was mainly for mobile browser not all mobile apps that use port 80). So I went into my APN (Access Point Name) settings on my phone, (under Settings->Wireless and networks->Mobile networks) and removed the Proxy address and Proxy port (80). This fixed the problem and I haven't noticed anything that is being blocked to port 80 when browsing so far.

Most likely my cell provider is using proxying web traffic on port 80 for speed (via cached content) and tracking. They may be blocking certain sites/things and could likely do that without the proxy also...only time will tell when using apps that use port 80 or more browsing time. Note I suspect each Mobile provider may have different policies for their APN settings and any content filtering, etc, so removing any proxy for port 80 may not work for all, but it is worth a try (just remember what you delete/change)

This worked for me.  I am on an LG G3 and using DCS-936L camera.
I was having problems accessing mydlink lite on cell network (Virginmobile.ca) but I could browse without any issues.

I don't know, but just maybe I've found the right thread here.
We've been experiencing the same problem ever since the latest firmware updates to the cams.
Now we haven't changed our router, modem, isp or phone. Everything remained the same.....except the camera firmware.
I have contacted DLink via email at least 4-5 times. The results were scripted answers. Called the 800 number....same answers. But the problem was passed to higher echelon techs. Still no remedy for not being able to connect via mobile data.
Our mobile device is LG model LGL33L; android version 5.0.1; kernel 3.10.49; software version L33L10. This is fairly new phone. And like I said before, everything worked and video was viewable on all our cams using the AP in the remote mode(cell data). ATT is the carrier. The APN name is TFDATA. I'm assuming that stands for Trac Fone DATA. Proxy; not set. Port: not set.

Here's my question: Is anyone else experiencing this new anomaly with Straight Talk/Trac Fone LG phones?
And do you have any ideas/workarounds?
It does not appear that we can change the default APN or its settings. But there is a APN settings field for a new APN. How do we try a different APN or is that even possible?
What sense is there in even having a mobile AP if it's only useful when we're near WIFI?? not very mobile is it?

Thanks

I can access my 933L via the Lite app just fine on 4G cell ATT and iPhone. I don't know about any other cell services. Also works on a iPad with cell service as well.

When did you contact D-Link support on the phone and did you get a case number?
IT might take some time for them to review and fix this issue.

My last phone contact with DLink was 1200 12/02/16.
Case # C6944075 was assigned.
Case was eventually referred to advanced level troubleshooters.
Waiting for DLink reply.

I would give it some time as see if they respond. If not, phone them back again. The problem maybe deeper than expected.

Same issue as user btp, using latest firmware for DCS-942L, Tmobile, IOS 10.2 on both iPhone and iPad, and Dlink Lite app version 3.6.7. (Worked fine with older firmware, IOS 9, and older Dlink app)

If connected via WiFi it works, If Cellular it gives error 0.70_0_2_7_70. (what ALSO does not work is viewing live video on a Mac running OSX Sierra using either the OLD plugin linked to one the live video page, OR the newer plugin I found on some Dlink support page.

But here is what DID work when using cellular... connecting the iphone or ipad via a VPN service such as private internet access. Doing this eliminates the cellular <> dlink connection, going through the VPN instead eg Cellular <> VPN <> Dlink

It's not a practical workaround unless you already use a VPN service, but it does seem to prove that Dlink is not handling the data traffic correctly to be compatible with the cellular carriers.

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?
What is the distance between the Camera and the main host router?

I recommend setting a static IP address ON the cameras outside of the main host routers default DHCP IP address pool as a troubleshooting step: 192.168.#.42  DHCP (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=58017.0)

Test cameras with uPnP and uPnP Port Forwarding both enabled on ALL cameras: DCS Cloud (L) Series Camera Configuration and Mydlink.com (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=62395.0)

I have this exact same issue, iphone on tmobile LTE with error 0.70_0_2_7_70_).  Camera works fine over wifi.  Some other posts have suggested editing APN settings on phone, but these are locked on tmobile devices.

Has anyone resolved this issue?

If t mobile is restricting this data, then they are violating net neutrality.

Has anyone tested this issue with UPnP enabled on their routers?

My 933L has been working flawlessly with uPnP and uPnP Port Forwarding enabled on the camera and connecting to various DIR series routers I have. I use iPhone and iPad devices with ATT cell service.

I have mentioned the use of uPnP features in various posts I've replied with.

Yes sir.
deleted app, rebooted phone, re-installed app.
cell video remains a nogo. will not connect.
a few notes:
cell provider is straight talk aka tracfone; carrier is att. 4g lte.
all cams viewable via same phone/carrier before latest firmware push. cannot backdate with lastest push.
very slow limited viewing via cell vpn apps.
all good via wifi intranet or internet.
all inop cams use mjpeg active x locally. experimented with java.; also a nogo.
i do have one cam that does connect; a 5010L that has not been updated; uses h.264 video compression. issue??
don't know if any of this helps or just confuses the issue. which appears to be cell data blocking as evidenced by a vpn workaround.
but why is it blocked now. after a cam firmware update. what changed that in the load to warrant a data blockage with amazon/dlink.
is this a contractual issue?

Wondering if this kind of "trac phone" is supported or not or maybe something has happened in the update.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. Make contact with someone with the mydlink.com support if possible. Reference this forum thread as well. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

Some also mentioned that data features with in there phones were not fully enabled for the app. Enabling data features for the app helped some. I haven't heard anything else about this issue.

additional information, testing on my iPhone SE (all updated) and using both Wifi mobile net and LTE on the same t-mobile network. on wifi it works, on LTE it does not. again, it is on the same network by t-mobile, the difference being connected directly, or - using the same SIM - using the mobile net device. (I simply plugged the SIM into the pocket wifi).

therefore, it cannot be LTE VPN etc with the carrier. It has to do with the app thinking wifi vs. cellular.

Mydlink lite app crashes when using cellular data (T-Mobile), iPhone 7, latest iOS, app up-to-date.  Replicated on another iPhone 7 and iPhone 6.  Have been experiencing for a few months.  Curious what would happen if connected to VPN over cellular, if anyone is willing to test.

Hi FurryNutz, Yes connecting through VPN allows the mydlink lite app to work via T-mobile cellular data on iPhone.  I also received an e-mail reply from D-link support with acknowledgement of the issue and suggestion to try Justconnect+ app, as follows:

"I have read that you are unable to access your DCS-xxxx over T-Mobile data connection on your iPhones because the mydlink lite app crashes. Please be informed that this issue has already been raised to the concerned department and is being investigated. At the moment, we cannot provide an ETA for the feedback/fix. However, we are collating cases like this so we can get back to you as soon as we already have an update.

As a temporary solution to access the camera remotely over cellular data, you may use Justconnect+ app. However, please be informed that you will have to open the http port of the camera on your router. The default port number is 80. If your router is D-Link, please provide the model number. Otherwise, you may call your router manufacturer to seek for assistance in opening the port."

Does JustConnect+ work on cell mode?
Sort of.  Justconnect+ accesses the cameras directly over unencrypted HTTP authentication and bypasses mydlink.  Configured port forwarding on router for a few cameras and set them up in the Justconnect+ app.  My experience so far is that frequently each camera shows error "Remote device unreachable" in camera list.  The camera list has a live "thumbnail" of the video feed for each camera, which may be a contributing factor since the app is trying to load all camera video feeds simultaneously.  No audio and PTZ not working for me.

I don't think you need to set up any PF rules. JC only needs the WAN side IP address to connect while you at a remote location using cell services. You can set up a LAN side IP address of the camera while at home.

Yes, that is the use case I was testing (accessing cameras via T-Mobile cellular data on iPhone).  Set up unique port forwarding for each camera.  Instead of WAN IP, using DynDns hostname.  Based on my results, I prefer the VPN workaround for now.  Thanks for feedback and help.

I'm in this same boat.  T-mobile, works on wifi, not on LTE.
Iphone 6s ios 10.3.1
DCS-932LB1
DCS-932L
DCS-5009L
DCS-930L

All have the same behavior...

Just wanted to add to the thread to hopefully get an update...  Thanks...

Thanks for the feedback. D-Link has this under review.

One suggestion that may work, check into a VPN service. Some others mentioned using a VPN service helps with this. Something to look into while we wait for a fix.

I have been fighting with D-Link for over 6 months with this issue.  I have taken down my cameras and have begun purchasing replacements.

This is completely UNACCEPTABLE.  D-Link has had this "under review" since November of 2016!  I purchased these cameras in order to monitor my house and after numerous frustrating phone calls and support conversations - connecting via a 3rd party application or setting up a VPN in order to view these cameras remotely when ANY OTHER mobile device on ANY OTHER carrier can view the cameras without any issues is NOT a fix.

I will say, the individuals that have helped me on this message board have been great and have done their best to help me with my issues outside of D-Link support.  Thank you all for such rapid response.  Unfortunately, there is only so much the members on this board can do when the company refuses to fix a glaring issue with their app.  The fact that the top 3 out of 4 viewed threads within this forum all deal with 3G/4G connectivity outlines that there is an ongoing problem.

Sorry for the rant.  Having a child soon, and I'm having to change platforms for video monitoring.

Thanks for giving feedback and we understand your frustrations. From my understanding, D-Link HQ has the con on this and from what I know, T-mobile is not in the Asia region, so the developers maybe having a hard time trying to figure this out since they may not have access to T-Mobile services. USA is aware of this issue. I presume USA is working with HQ as best as they can to get this issue fixed. I recommend users contact D-Link USA to keep them up to day on the problem at hand. Also give the VPN suggestion a try as a work around.

I'll try and keep D-Link up to date on this as best as I can.

Once OWLR supports HTTPS on iOS devices, this may also be a viable and secure alternative to mydlink lite (will require manual port forwarding and DDNS if WAN IP dynamic).  More info: https://owlr.uservoice.com/forums/245994-general/suggestions/9792345-connect-using-https

Fingers still crossed D-link will be able to resolve this soon.

I'm in the same exact boat. Just switched back to iPhone (it's been years) and I've ran into this issue. I have a few days left to return iPhone which is probably my only resolve.

Why is there no MYDLINK+ app for iPhone, iPad's and all android phones have it and seems to always run better. My LG phone works on both MYDLINK and MYDLINK+ apps just fine, my wife's Galaxy s6 works on both apps just fine as well. All with or without wifi. About to test iPhone 6+ Sprint.

What other brand cameras did you switch to, and how do they compare? I'd hate to switch out my 5 D'Link cameras but it's either ditch D'Link or iPhone.

The problem is between T-Mobile and D-Link. T-Mobile service has this issue only. ATT and Verizon are not effected. All my cameras work well on AT&T.
D-Link is having issues since some of there development on cameras are not in the USA and at there HQ in Taiwan. T-Mobile doesn't have any services over there so this is having problems with getting this fixed. D-Link is aware of the issues and is trying to get this resolved.

I do hope D-Link can get it fixed however it may be taking longer than expected. I also don't want to recommend changing phone service providers as some users maybe tied to a contract with T-Mobile and can't just hop to something different.

One work around currently is to configure a VPN with the iPhone and your home network system. Other users have posted that this works for them while using the T-Mobile service.

The cameras and your iPhone HW are fine. It's the services between D-Link and T-Mobile that have to be resolved.

Yeah I just figured out it's only TMobile. Phones I've tested with my cameras were an iPhone 4 Verizon no problem, iphone 7 IOS 10.3.2 Sprint no problem, and just now tested iPhone 7+ IOS 10.3.2 AT&T no problem either.

I do not have to leave carrier because I can return this recent iPhone 7+ and go back to my LG or any android phones that I have had for years working just fine. Android Play Store even have a MyDLink+ app that works even better than LITE.

Ok. Not sure why T-Mobile is the only phone service with this issue.  ::)

(SORRY SO LONG)  I really don't have any solution, only an explanation as to why I don't believe Tmobile holds the entire blame, if any at all.

SIDENOTE:  Whoever the person is ... posting they're going to swap out their iPhone:
    (1)  It's not a hardware issue, and DEFINITELY not your iPhone.
    (2)  Even if you don't believe anyone - good luck with trying to swap your iPhone either Apple direct or with an Apple Store.  You won't get anywhere.
Just understand, know and be resolved in knowing it's NOT a hardware issue.  Your iPhone is FINE.

-------------------------------
I don't quite believe this is a T-Mobile issue either  - as they've been outright blamed here.  We've had either at one time or another, one to several different versions and models of d-link cameras, and using on different versions of d-link's lite app succesfully.  We've also been with T-mobile, basically ever since they started up in the states, NINETEEN years.

This error number has historically reared it's head several times over the years, and it's ANNOYING to see it when it does because it's always been on d-link's side, and they seem ALWAYS slow to move to correct it whenever people start reporting it.  The only good thing about it is (if any)  there's enough wifi /hotspots around thta you can connect to - you can get around the problem.

"Getting around" the problem, or doing a "work around," however, should NOT be required!  Granted - I'm totally grateful to what D-link DOES provide.  For example: I can set up email and video /pic file notifications for I believe pretty much all our cameras.  Foscam, for example - you get to do the same process for ONLY ONE camera.  How lame.  They aren't even storing your image(s).  BUT... when D-link already is aware of this type of issue, they are extremely slow to address the issue, and worse to deny the issue, and not provide any viable short term solution.

BACK TO TMOBILE:
Here's the deal - D-link has historically had issues with it's updates and this error.  Their App version history shows they've had FOUR updates just this year alone.  However, this error  has NOT been a constant with Tmobile, and as mentioned, I can attest to being with Tmobile for 19 years.

D-link  recently had issues with the last couple versions of their app.  With the last version, maybe two ago - the app wouldn't even give an error.  It simply CRASHED every time I tried using cellular.  After updating the app - without crashes, I was able to connect via cellular again, just fine with Tmobile.

Before - with this error I had been told (or I read)  to disconnect and reconnect the cameras displaying the error.
OH YEA... because that's the "OTHER THING".  Not until this last bout, we would not get this error for all our cameras.  Only one or some would display the error, and once we  reset the power - the error was gone.  However, it seems (as I've tried) this is not an option this time.

All this to say - maybe it is the way Tmobile delivers it's data (CDN) at certain times, and probably not.  But we've had no connectivity issues for the last few months, since the app was updated (partially for crashes, maybe)   But using Tmobile in these last few months , we've had  successful operation, so I don't know how Tmobile could be to blame in totality?   It's gotta be in the app.

Someone replied early on here reporting the POST #5  was a successful option.  And if you don't have VPN like most of us don't - it might work for you.   I've not had a chance to try it, but someone right after the post - reported success. You'll just want to make note of your initial settings so you can change back to your original settings.

The post noting something was - "in the works"  (referred to via a link in the last post)  was made nearly three weeks ago.  So lets hope D-link gets a REAL FIX SOONER than later.  Unfortunately,  D-link knows the issue... but always slow to move.

T-Mobile is not 100% of the blame. It was a combination of iOS 10.2.x (and up), mydink app, and T-Mobile (after the IPv6-only rollout). T-Mobile with Android had zero issues.

Probably obvious reasons why...
I can access cameras from my iPhone 6s+ when connected to my Tmobile cellular hotspot.

Obviously... some of that portal traffic being routed through... even though a cellular hotspot - it's handled as though going through a regular wifi router? ?

That's an assumption /guess / and question.

TO DATE:
I still can't access cameras via my Tmobile phone /service, even though I could just a couple weeks ago.

The problem occurs when using 3g/4g/4glte.  I am not sure how T-Mobile cellular hot spots are set up but I assume similar to connecting through a wi-fi router.

Hi there,

Unfortunately the problem doesn’t seem to have been fixed properly: I am from Italy and have the exact same error described here, even on the “fixed” version of the application.  The workaround with VPN applies too. I could reproduce this with at least two carriers: Vodafone and Wind, both on Android and iOS devices.

Are you aware of the fact that the problem persists with non-US carriers? When can an updated version of the application be expected that solves the issue properly?

Cheers from Rome

There hasn't been any reports of issues with this problem after the fix came out for USA users on T-Mobile.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

You may want to contact the mydlink team - https://www.mydlink.com/contact (https://www.mydlink.com/contact)

Supply them with the the app version and the exact version of your OS on the device that is not working.
