Laptop has difficulty connecting to AX routers
« on: May 25, 2021, 04:38:58 PM »

My 2 laptops have the ability to connect to 802.11ac WiFirouters/APs.  However, even putting beside an X-1870 with lower compatibility connection setting (WPA/WPA2, 802.11b-ax), both PCs can detect both WIFI signasl with higher DB in X1870 but still keep on connecting to DRA-1360, which is its extender of it located 2 meters away from the laptop/X1870 location.  Both APs are set to Smart Connect.  I've already updated the driver (Intel Dual 3160/Qualcomm 9285)  of both PCs but I was able to connect once to X1870 but now can't connect to X1870, even forcing by BSSID selection of WiFiInfoView application.

Is there additional settings, etc. needed to configure X1870 or my Lenovo/Asus laptops for that matter?

2 meters is too close for the DRA and the DIR. try 10 meters in between the DIR and DRA units.

There are many walls between these access points with more than 30-50db signal difference, it's still connecting to the weaker DRA. I believe that some compatibility issues on the settings or driver version perhaps. But anyway trying even 10m distance still does NOT solve the issue. Thanks.

It took me months to figure out on how to connect my legacy notebook PC with Intel WiFi adapters.   Mine is Intel Wireless Link 4965AGN and can only connect 802.11g even the WiFi N is enabled.  This module is draft-N so there compatibility reasons that it connects to 802.11g only.  Back to the topic, I was able to connect based from competitors web page that the wireless security setting should be set to WPA/WPA2-Personal or WPA2-Personal only.   Setting to WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode or WPA3 cause incompatibility to Intel drivers.  It's recommended to update the driver version but the legacy one has none.

You might want to check to see if there is a external USB wifi adapter upgrade that maybe possible to use on this older LT.

The limited USB slots, additional battery consumption of USB dongle and connection rate that might choke the CPU/GPU/DSP utilization so the built in WiFi would do.

Sounds like the wifi adapter is old enough on this laptop that it maybe no longer compatible with AX wifi systems. You'll need to get the laptops wifi adapter updated or use something else.

Good Luck.
