Is there a months charge to use myDlink.com?
« on: February 24, 2012, 03:57:26 AM »

Hi,

I'm interested in purchasing the DCS-942L, but would like to know if there is a months feee or any other charges associated with accessing the myDlink.com site to view the camera's images and video online.

Thanks,

The mydlink site is free of charge for owners of a compatible D-Link camera. D-Link does have a fee associated with some (but not all) of the mydlink lite mobile apps (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42675.0).

I find it funny when people complain about paying $0.99 for apps.

Are you serious?

A one time fee of $0.99 for a app is nothing compared to what I paid for my iPhone and iPad.

The one time fee of $0.99 is also nothing compared to my smart phone data plan that I pay for over and over and over every month!

Seriously? You can afford a iPad and your complaining about paying a one time fee of $0.99 for a app?

I'm really surprised that there is not a monthly fee to use myDlink.com

The argument to be made here is that the DCS-XXX series cameras are advertised as having full mydlink access included in the hardware purchase cost. Tethering access to a for-fee application circumvents that claim, regardless of how trivial the cost compared to the retail purchase price of a tablet.

On second thought do you even need the iPad app?
Can't you just use the iPad browser and go to myDlink.com and view your camera?

Let's keep things civil here. I believe everyone adequately expressed their opinion on this matter, and I'm closing this thread before things get out of hand.  ;)
