QOS is still broken.

Thank you. I have made D-link aware of this. I'm hoping next release it should be fixed.

Does doing a factory reset, walking thru the set up wizard while connected to the ISP modem, then go directly to the QoS section and make UP and Down changes the save settings work?

No, the reset made no difference with this B02 version for me.  Still cannot input correct bandwidth params, and calculated values are miles off my actual rated speeds.   I am 300/20 rated, and the values after factory reset/wizard path are 8/2.

They should be 300/300 after doing a factory reset.

Can you factory reset, reload FW code, factory reset once more, this time skip the Set up wizard and go in and look to see what is listed by default for QoS? You might do this while having the router disconnected from the ISP modem.

I'd like to inquire to those who upgraded their DIR-880L to F/W v1.05 build XX concerning 40MHz channel width setting problem.

If you refer to the attached image, I tried to enable all my 3 D-Link WLAN routers with the following channel assignment below:
All models are SE Asian units with the F/W version and some settings

          channel 1: DIR-880L/A1  (v1.05 b02, hidden SSID, high transmission, enabled HT 20MHz/40MHz, b/g/n, WPA2)
          channel 6: DIR-636L/A1  (v1.05 b09, hidden SSID, high transmission, enabled HT 20MHz/40MHz, b/g/n, WPA2/AES)
          channel 11: DIR-655/A3  (v1.37WW, hidden SSID, high transmission, enabled HT 20MHz/40MHz, b/g/n, WPA2/AES)
channel 161: above DIR-880L with the same data above with enabled HT 20MHz/40MHz/80MHz, a/n/ac, WPA2)

4 D-Link cameras with 1 desktop PC via LAN cable are connected to channel 1 while the NAS & printer are connected to channel 6 with some notebook PCs while channel 11 is for smartphones and tablets.

Now here is the problem, channels 11 (655) and 161 (880L) are able to maintaing multiple channel allocation while channel 1 (880L/n) and channel 6 (636L/n) are always using 20MHz only.  Tried to enable only 1 WiFi router at a time to connect my notebook PC only with 2x2 N/AC connect capability but can't get 40MHz setting.  880L rebooted with 20/40MHz at the start but a few secodes, stabilizes/sustains in 20MHz only.  In 636L, it can maintain 40MHz for a time but normally speed down to 20MHz.  And another thing I've noticed, 636L and 655 maintain a maximum speed rating of 300Mbps while 880L is always 216Mbps only.  If 20/40Mhz is attaned at boot-up, I'm getting 450Mbps and not the rating of 600Mbps.

Actually, this is just a minor problem but why I can't get 20/40MHz rating in 880L is something trivial to me.  But using F/W v1.04, I could get 20/40MHz for a long time but once all WiFi routers are running, it will allocate back to 20Mhz.  I've posted my 880L problems before but I still can't find any cause why 880L/n always set to 20Mhz only.

I even tried to set WiFi N only but to no avail.  Is there I need to take consideration in order to get 40Mhz width?  I've also tried changing the channel assignment between 1, 6 and 11 and even non-standard ID but still 20Mhz is set by 880L.  But why my other routers can constantly maintain 20/40Mhz channel width.

Can you run this test again with HT 20/40 Disabled and single mode N?

Yes I already tried to disable HT 20/40MHz setting and but this time it just 1+5MHz didn't show, unlike when enabled.  If I understand correctly, single mode N means disabling 5MHz, then also tried it but it didn't change, only channel 1.  Once I restored HT 20/40MHz setting, it booted to channel 1+5 but after a few seconds, it has gone down to channel 1 only.  Does the number of connected terminals affect this?  How come my speed is limited to 216Mbps unlike other routers which retained 300MHz indication, even operating at 1 channel ID only.  F/W v1.04 had me long 40MHz allocation but at v1.05, it resorted to 1 channel only.  Setting only WiFi N connection didn't help also.  This wideband setting gives me faster transmission in DIR-655 which is alway maintain multiple channel ID setting.  Tried also renaming my 5GHz to same ID with 2.4 GHz but again didn't work.  I'm beginning to doubt that probably the Asian version of DIR-880L chipset might be different from the rest of the world, that is why I'm getting 216Mbps only.

What is the Mfr and model if the client HW that your using on 2.4Ghz?
Ensure that this device support 600Mb connection rates one 2.4Ghz. Some devices don't. There will be 300, 450 and 600Mb connection rates seen on 2.4Ghz however again it depends on what the devices supported by the Mfr.

It's always best to keep SSID names different on each radio. However when Smart Connect is enabled then it should handle what devices connects to what radio automatically.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. Reference this thread to them. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

As indicated in my previous post, DIR-880L is an A1 build with SEAsian version.  As for the PC, using Lenovo ThinkPad X61 with dual/MIMO 802.11n support.

Since its inSSIDer result shows 300Mbps on both 636L (HT 20 only) and 655 (HT 20/40) connection, I'm wondering why 880L connection is limited to 216Mbps only.  Same thing was also reported to ACER and HP laptop PCs.

I reported that F/W v1.05b01 was able to sustain HT 20/40 broadcast thus enhancing the speed theoretically to 450Mbps, 1.05b02 always resorted to
20MHz only.  No additional connection nor change of location of WiFI is concerned.  I'm aware of 600Mbps H/W requirement but the question here is the constant single channel ID broadcasting, thus 216Mbps is set.  I've been using a hidden SSID ever since.  About the SSID of other access points, 636L and 655 have different SSIDs with fixed but different channel allocation.  Even if 636L and 655 WiFI are disabled, 880L 1.05b02 can't establish the 40 width.  There is a big difference in transferring files within the LAN, specially the DCS camera recording being copied to NAS.

About the tech support, called but they're unaware of the said problem but they usually suggest possible interference from neighbors or other gadgets or appliances affecting the allocation.  Did downgrade last night to 1.05b01 and again 880L can achieve HT 20/40 even when all WiFi routers are running.
Don't know how to report this so I hope that other 880L users and this forum could provide some answers.

Thanks and hope to hear some feedback.

"As for the PC, using Lenovo ThinkPad X61 with dual/MIMO 802.11n support." What is the mfr and model # of the wifi adapter inside of the Thinkpad? Whats it's max supported connection rate? Seeing 802.11n maybe only 300Mb. Need to contact the Mfr of the adapter and see what the max supported connection rate is for this adapter.

My try a different adapter as well or different wireless device.

It's Intel 4965AGN with connection rate only of 300Mbps 2x2 operating on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.  I realize that its rating is only 300MHz only but how come 450Mbps is always indicated in F/W v1.04 as shown in the figure below.  But the bad thing is 216Mbps is always registered, unlike other WiFi-N routers have a rating of consistent to 300MHz using F/W v1.05.

This speed rating may be theoretical but tried copying 10GB file on all 3 routers and there is a significant difference in transferring (slower) using 880L.  While the other 2 almost have the same duration, faster than 880L even at 1 channel ID only.  Tried copying in transferring these routers at the same location (almost the same signal level).

Anyway, this is just a trivial inquiry on the consistency on its performance and maybe I could tweak or adjust the location or antenna position of the router.

The rates you are seeing on connection speed rates between the device and the router. They are not actual file xfer rates. Entirely different.

So you saw 450Mb on v1.04 and don't see 300Mb on v1.05?

Yes I'm aware about this that is why I indicated that it's the theoretical speed and not the actual speed from WLAN terminal to Ethernet/LAN connected desktop terminal as destination.  I  based the actual speed using network meter, task manager's WLAN speed meter and file explorer's speed rate indicated in both source and destination terminal.

Going back to my original inquiry, 216Mbps is indicated, not 300 nor 450Mbps in 880L with new F/W, unlike the consistent 300Mbps with 636L and 655.  But anyway, thanks for the feedback.  Connecting the terminal using AC/dual N shows speed difference with single mode N when copying encoded large video and audio files.

I'll recommend that you contact your regional D-Link support office an ask them about the connection rates that your seeing. Reference this thread for review. I'll have a look with mine and see if I find anything. If you are getting 300Mb on the older routers and not the 880L, then there maybe a problem in FW that D-Link needs to review. Let us know how it goes.

QoS IS BROKEN.  BADLY.  IT APPARENTLY HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR MANY MONTHS NOW.   IT IS JUST NOW CAUSING MAJOR PROBLEMS FOR ME.   AND,  I AM FURIOUS ABOUT THIS.   I AM TRAPPED IN 8/2 settings when my speeds are 50/5.

Why has this NOT BEEN FIXED?

Not only QOS broken but I also found out that after running this version for a long time and recently try to update DHCP table on static IP addresses and hostname changes, it cannot save these new setting anymore.  In order for me to save this is to factory reset again the unit while all my gadgets are running in order to register/retain the settings from WiFi router's initial state.  I hope that new version would be released soon to fix all these issues.

All we can do as you said is really wait.  But what odd is, multiple versions had been released since last year but these persistent issues are still NOT resolved.  I hope that they can restore the manual input of static IP address/MAC address like the settings of previous WiFi routers, instead of needed to connect these gadgets to be registered.

I hope that they could review again its functional framework design, comparing their old WiFi router settings which mostly are still usable.  I've invested many D-Link products and know what they achieved before so I believe that they can restore these indispensable setting and make it WORK flawlessly.  The competition offers many but really helpful setting which D-Link has to offer also.

Hello there!

I've found a new v1.06 F/W version for DIR-880L A2 but the filename also indicates A1.  However, checking its release notes, it just indicate the F/W support for A2 H/W.  Did anyone try this on A1 unit and compare its improvement over v1.05WW or earlier?

Thanks.

Hi Furry!

Do you have new information on this F/W update from tsd.dlink.com.tw?

Since it has WW in its version (1.06WW), I assume that all regions' units are supported.   Keep us posted.

Thanks.

This is a released from D-Link HQ and from what I know, it's nothing including any problems we have noted here:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=59562.0

It's for a Rev A2 however is supported on A1s as well.

You can try it if you want to however I would wait.

Sorry for getting impatient.  Not only the QOS is broken, but I'm experiencing frequent disconnection of mydlink camera due to its hostname non retention (DHCP problem, unable to register IP-MAC address pairing.  Maybe more than 25 devices including NAS and IP cameras with phones, PCs, tablets and smart TV are connected.  But I have DIR-636L connected to it as WLAN access point extension with DIR-880L as DHCP server and PPPOE dialer.
