Title: USB Printer
Post by: jaymundy on July 22, 2016, 05:57:58 AM
Greetings!  Just trying to get my DIR-890L set up.  It recognizes USB memory sticks fine, but I can't seem to get it to see a printer.  The router is HW version A2, FW version 1.08  The printer is an HP deskjet 1512.  I've also tried an HP deskjet 2540.

Thanks!

It's possible that the 890L doesn't support USB printers and only USB flash and HDD Media drives. I'll see if I can find out some info.
An alternative to get your USB printers connected on the network so you can share them out would be to install and USB to LAN print server:

I would inquire with HP to see which ones would work best for your two printers:

D-Link had one or two some years back however I don't think they have anything up to date or current.

Fuzzy,
Thanks.  Firmware is 1.08, as I said.

We're in Virginia.

Looking at the user manual I don't see any options for printers. Just USB drives. I'll check with D-Link and see what they say.

Queston, which USB port did you connect the printer too? I presume you tried both? And do you have the SharePort app installed on a PC?

Ok, was told that printer is doable on the USB 2.0 port along with the use of the Shareport application PC or Mac.

Thanks for checking! I tried both ports....no joy on either.  I've been unable to find the shareport link to download the app.  I followed your link to the download page and got version 4.5. I'll see, once that's installed, if it helps.

Mostly what I'm not seeing is on the configuration web page (http:\\192.168.0.1)  for the router any indication of anything on the USB port.  The configuration home page shows the USB stick, but not  the printer.

The install of sharepoint 4.5 worked. THanks for the link!  Let me try again with that installed and see how it goes.

And the update.  Strange behavior.  The configuration home page for the router shows nothing connected, but the sharepoint application shows the printer just fine.  So...problem solved! And thanks, Fuzzy!

I'm a  bit baffled why the router config page doesn't show the printer on the USB 2.0 port, but sharepoint sees it fine.  That seems like an odd glitch in the way the router handles things.

Again, thanks for the assist!

Good to hear. Not sure if the status will be reported for a USB printer on the UI page. I know it should for USB drives.
Glad the app is working and all is good.

Enjoy.  ;)
