Title: Dead DNS-323 COMM?! Options to reuse data and drives intact?

I believe my DNS-323 communications port is dead after a recent lightning strike on my property as I have found other dead electronic devices as well. I have tried several different patch cables and ports on my switch to no avail. I get no lights indicating connection. I don't believe the whole unit is dead as the drives will spin up on restart with the front button. I have 2 questions:

1) Can the network port be saved? (Probably just wishful thinking)

2) If not, what options do I have to reuse the drives with the data intact? They were configured for RAID 1. (I believe I read on this forum somewhere about inserting the drives into a Windows machine. I do have one Windows machine with WIN 7. Although there was no mention of using WIN 7. Or, can I just "plug & play" the drives into a newer D-Link storage unit?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you've tried different cables and tried a factory reset and the DNS doesn't appear in the routers connected clients table, There probably isn't much you can do with out someone digging deeper in to it and doing some diagnostic troubleshooting.

UPDATE!

After thinking about this for some time and reading the post link supplied by FurrryNutz, It finally stuck me that I could probably access one of the drives by simply installing it into a machine running Linux. It just so happens that I had 2 running Linux Mint. Since the two drives were in a RAID-1 array, I also needed to create a RAID-1 array on my machine. I only needed to use one drive using the mdadm utility by following the steps outlined in the Answers section on this page:

And voila! It worked.

FurryNutz, my DNS-323 has died, where I want to recover the data on my 2 Hitachi DeskStar 500 GB hard drives that have my family photos, movies and music.  I bought a Thermaltake BlacX Dual HD Docking Station to connect to a Windows10 laptop, yet the drives do not show up.  What do you recommend I do to recover my precious data?

I would check with the Mfr of this docking station to make sure the drives are supported. Usually a USB Drive caddy is all thats needed.
