Is the newest errors. I tried most of your ideas at the start of the page. I just cant test the router at a second location. Maybe we can start from the beginning and walk me through everything
-
- What region are you located?
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
- What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have? Link> Speed Testing Sites (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48352.0)
- By-pass the main host router and check internet connection by connecting a wired LAN PC directly to the ISP modem to verify connection access and ISP speeds.
- Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6)
- Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53008.0)
- For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
- If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm) and How NAT Works (http://computer.howstuffworks.com/nat.htm). Call the ISP and ask to see if the ISP modem can be bridged. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ (http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Networking-101-The-DMZ-137550). Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.
Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on a Router (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=56344.msg219023#msg219023)

Router: D-Link EBR-2310 Ethernet Broadband Router
Router version: B1
What region are you located? Ottawa, Ontario
[/u]
What ISP Modem service link speeds do you have: UP 1.08 mbps and Down 15.9mbps
By-pass the main host router and check internet connection by connecting a wired LAN PC directly to the ISP modem to verify connection access and ISP speeds.: Works perfect
Check cable between Modem and Router:Secured connection
If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem: Modem is a single port modem with no wifi/router capabilities (RCA/Thomson/Technicolor TC4300) is modem

where are the mtu settings for D-Link EBR-2310 Ethernet Broadband Router?
-
Maybe under Setup/Internet?
-
naw not in there, would it be labelled MTU?
-
Most MTU features are kept under Internet manual settings sections in D-Link FW.
You don't see any MTU features anywhere in the UI?
-
Cool found it, was alreayd at the proper setting. Should I use dynamic or static IP?
-
Where was it?
Dynamic for WAN IP? Depend on your ISP if your asking about this. Most use Dynamic unless you pay for a static IP address.
For LAN side devices, you can set static on those devices that don't need much internet access. Printer, NAS, cameras phones and controllers.
-
alright, hmm not sure why the connection keeps bouncing on and off. Still cant find the issue in my control panel. I know it is stable when the router isn't connected
-
Swap LAN cable between modem and router?
Is DNS relay enabled or disabled, try both?
-
found it, still me and the second pc keep going on and off with packet protocol 17 fails now
-
What Windows version are you using?
Is DNS relay enabled or disabled, try both?
What is the Mfr and model of the NIC adapter installed in this PC?
Did you set up an IP address reservation for the PC?
Do other devices exhibit that same issue as this one PC?
-
What Windows version are you using?
Windows 7 ultimate
Is DNS relay enabled or disabled, try both?
enabled
What is the Mfr and model of the NIC adapter installed in this PC?
Qualcomm Atheros Killer e2200 Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30)
Do I need to open computer to find model number?
Did you set up an IP address reservation for the PC?
Where do I do that?
Do other devices exhibit that same issue as this one PC?
Yes the laptop. When only the computer is hooked up to the router it works perfectly, but as soon as the laptop is hooked up they both have issues.
-
Does the LT (laptop) work by itself with out the PC connected?
What is the Mfr and model of the NIC on the LT?
-
yes, also I read something online that this router has a hardware fault that causes this. I think I messed up
-
Well in all honesty, this model router was good up to 100Mb, however most NIC and wired devices now support 1000Mb speeds. Your only limiting your WAN and LAN connections by using 100Mb with this router. I'd get into something like a DGL-4500 or a DIR-655 Rev A B or C. Even a DIR-628 supports 1000Mb speeds if your wanting a cheap used router that could be found on amazon or flebay. There some good finds out there. Even if you found one of the routers I meantioned, you can upgrade the wifi by connecting up a newer AC class AP to the router and turn off the older wifi or slower wifi radio on those model router. I have been using my DGL-4500 lately for fun and have a DIR-890L connected to it running as a AP only. Great setup
